I like what Brian Manzela teaches and think he is better than a lot of people but I wondered if people had folks had thoughts on this video I saw. It seems like a lot to keep in mind and I hope this was a several hour lesson to a guy that traveled to take the lesson and that the golfer knows how to do these things in some sort of order and not just try to do all this at once.

What do you think?

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

Hmm..."Keep the right shoulder and right hip low."  That seemed rather odd...he's espousing a flatter turn.  I'm no expert by any means, but that seems misleading.

Ignoring the info provided, giving a walkthrough of the whole swing sounds like a great idea if this is like lesson 1. Yes watching it in real time is tough but they guy can go home and watch the parts he struggles with repeatedly.

Not ignoring the info, the flatter turn does seem a bit odd but maybe this guy was super steep and needs to be flattened out.

We've done a few videos like this for students, but they tend to have a maximum of about four to six things in them (two or three might be static things - and it's rare that we get to five or six), and provide a bit more detail about each of the things, as well as the order in which they're important for the guy to work on. Golfers can't work on more than about one or two things at once (static changes don't count).

Brian is actually my pro down here in New Orleans.  He is fantastic.  I've been working with him for about a year and I am playing good golf (low 80s with 1 out of 4-5 in the 70s).  I couldn't recommend him higher.  He actually asked me before our first lesson if I wanted a "resort lesson" (quick tips) or if i wanted to work with him over time.  I said over time and he said ok, today we are changing your grip.  He uses trackman for every shot in every session.  That lesson could have been a "quick lesson", who knows.

I also think he teaches the short game well, and with most pros, you don't get both good short and long game instruction (in my experience).  He has cool packages of lessons (like playing lessons, etc..) rather than just the standard 1 hour.  I would recommend him to anyone in my area.

I think it is a great idea to put it into a video like this. In some of my lessons I would have had to write it down to remember it but this would have been a nice thing to have to go back and remember what we worked on. I do think it is a few too many things but we don't know the background, maybe he has given the guy the same message before so 1-2 of them are reminders and 2-3 are new. Without seeing the guys swing it is hard to tell if the content is any good.

I counted over 10 things. left hand and heel pad finger on left hand twist something in backswing twist again in downswing more twisting in followthru flatter shoulders flatter hips hands different path back butt to target hips stay closed arms come down at different rate stop finish limit hip turn followthru then he says do those things on chip shots and work your way up to a full swing. good luck. I think highly of the guy but the circumstances behind this video would have to be pretty extraordinary for me to give someone that much in one video.

Wait, we're not suppose to have ten swing thoughts? :)

No. Only odd numbers.

That is clearly wrong. It needs to be even so so all the mistakes balance out. If you give me an odd number I will have to forget one of the for the math to workout

I'm fairly certain that if I give you 11 things to work on in the middle of one swing you'll forget at least one.

all i know about him is that he was in the golf magazine spread about trackman data at impact, and he knows that to hit a push draw the clubface has to be open to the target at impact.

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
