I went to a local Bridgestone ball fitting. I was using my Ping K15 driver with regular flex shaft. When I got fit for that driver it said I was getting a ball speed of 125 mph with and 88 mph club head speed. After this ball fitting I am thing something is fishy about the numbers Bridgestone gave me. Here are the results:

Q-Star:

HS : 88.7

BV : 115.5

LA : 11.9

BS: 2963

SS: 970

Distance : 182  (They said this drive had 24 yards of roll. So the total drive would be 206.)

Ideal:

HS : 88.7

BV : 131.2

LA : 14.1

BS: 2611

SS: 0

Distance : 229

E6:

HS : 87.8

BV : 116.8

LA : 12.5

BS: 2263

SS: 313

Distance : 193  (they said this drive had 25 yards of roll and went further right than the q-star on the printout they gave me.The total drive here was 218.)

I am trying to figure out how I had a slower club head speed yet a faster ball speed. That just doesn't make any sense to me. If someone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. And I know for a fact that I usually hit it around 220 when I'm on my local course because the bunker on the right is 225 yards from tee and I am usually within a couple yards of it.

I think the E6 is a very low compression ball.  80ish.

So would the lower compression result in a faster ball speed?

Depends on how you hit it.  I'll look for a ball compression/swing speed/smash factor comparison chart.  Not sure if one exists.

I would think that lower compression would result in a more spring like effect off the face, and thus higher ball speed.  But since they are "stuck" to the face longer, I would assume that would also mean more spin.  Your numbers above show the opposite.

I also think you are right to be a little skeptical of the numbers, simply because it was a Bridgestone fitting, not an independent fitting.

Yeah I think I will just stick with the Q-Star I am playing now. I don't really think that fitting is accurate anyways since they get all this information from taking a picture of the ball.

I'd recommend buying a sleeve just to try and see how it goes, can't hurt.  I wouldn't be skeptical of Bridgestone's fitting system, they do a good job.  Important to understand that not all launch monitors are the same, my numbers are different on Trackman compared to Foresight, compared to my Bridgestone fitting etc.  So don't worry that the numbers in the driver fitting are different here.  And I agree that you probably just hit the Bridgestone balls more in the center to create more ball speed.

Also someone said they are spinning more, not what the numbers say.  You were launching it higher with less spin with the Bridgestone balls.  The only "fishy" thing is that you might have been a little more warmed up when hitting the Bridgestone balls.  From my experience they great balls.

The ball that they recommended I played before. I switched from the e6 to the Q-star because I wasn't hitting it very far and I was missing a lot of fairways. Now that I switched to the Q-star I am hitting more fairways and I am also driving it further. The only reason I went to the fitting is to see what they would recommend for me.

If I'm reading it correctly, I'd say it's because of the spin numbers. In the collision between the club head and the ball, any energy spent in rotating the ball is energy that isn't used to propel the ball forward. So less spin with the E6 (more than 1000 rpm less with back and side spin combined), means greater velocity even though the club head was travelling a little slower.

You need some backspin because it provides lift, and thus makes the ball carry further but any side spin is wasted energy, and any back spin greater than the ideal amount is also wasted energy.

Also remember that roll out is very variable. They'd be doing this on some kind of model, your home course may offer quite a bit more run than their model (harder fairways, shorter grass etc) and thus the lower than ideal launch angle you get actually works well in your conditions, and could mean the carry they indicate for the Q-star is right, but your drives to further because of roll.
