The Trevino Swing

I have been learning the Trevino swing from my pro for the last 4 weeks. He claims its he best fix for coming over the top. I aim about 20° to the left of my target on the backswing and change the path on the downswing towards the target. It feels quite strange but seems to work quite well.

I do however have one problem, I am getting a jarring pain to the side of my ribs halfway up my torso. The pro says this will subside as I am stretching the proper golf muscles.

Can any of your swing perverts put me right on this?

Click on the pencil icon  at the lower left of the post.

You may not have that function yet.

I just found out the edit function is only available for a short time, something like 10 minutes.

Apparently this is to prevent someone from altering 'history'.

So do a preview first and check for the pencil icon.

Which Trevino swing?  He has about 60 different swings.

Such a dirty thread...

Can't get it. Doesn't matter the words are almost synonyms... Experts - Perverts

I didn't know that. The one of the 60 where he takes the club back on a plane aiming 20° left of target and on the downswing flattens out to a plane on target.

I once saw an article in a scientific type of magazine.  It was either Popular Science or Popular Mechanics.

It was an interview with Lee Trevino and his swing.

The pictures from the top showed the swing as almost a figure eight motion.  It went outside first and then came back inside and when you watch him in action that's what he seems to do.  It's a pretty flat swing.  Apparently he perfected that swing so he could keep the ball low out of the wind.

And as soon as you post have a look at the bottom of the post next to the little flag.  That's the pencil that you can edit your post with before the pencil disappears after about 10 minutes.

Here's a good video of the Trevino swing and some good tips.

My thoughts...looping the club the way Lee Trevino did is better than looping it the other way (over the top).  The feeling of making that move can get you into a good position on the downswing.  Would I prescribe someone model their swing after Lee Trevino, probably not.  Your teacher may just be trying to eliminate a hard over the top move by having you exaggerate a movement.  The pain you are experiencing could be correct golf muscles being used for the first time.  If that's the case it will go away, if it doesn't discontinue your practice and see a doctor.

Right on.  Practice that move in your living room if you have to.

Well, I went to the driving range this morning and couldn't swing at all. I thought the pain was coming from the middle of my ribs but its in the middle of my back between my right shoulder and right hip. My girlfriend irritated it a bit last night when I was giving her one.

We share a flat with her mother, I think we'll stick to the bedroom.

Is that you Tiger?

I tried the Trevino swing a few years ago. Great swing for hitting the ball straight, not too hard to learn, but... My back was sore after every practice session and they weren't that long. Hasn't he had several back surgeries?

This swing is good to have in reserve for the times when you absolutely have to hit the ball straight, but as your daily bread, I think it could be dangerous for your health.

No, I only have one girlfriend and my wife's not getting a cash settlement. Unless she finds out.

Scheisse! You find a good swing and you can't use it. Typical.

I use the Trevino swing and to hit the ball with a draw, I use an open stance with a strong left hand grip and a weak right hand grip and make a circle

8 swing. To fade the ball I take the club outside and and cut across the ball.  I can't tee the ball high but 1/2 " lower.  It corrects the over the top swing.

I turn the left hip back and post on a straight left leg.  If the up right swing doesn't work for you give this swing a try.  I have never had any injuries with this swing.  Good Luck

I have practised the Trevino swing for many years and I usually have a good game along with my buddies/
