I'm thinking of a quick 2 night golf getaway with the wifey. I live only 40 minutes from Palm Springs and while I've played out there many times I've never stayed overnight and played. Is their a relatively affordable place you'd recommend to stay and play at?

Thanks

To give you the best answer I would want to know your budget. If just off the cuff, I would suggest Mission Hills. My second off the cuff choice would be Indian Wells. A couple of nice course with a nice hotel. But there are SO many nice places to play. PGA West, SilverRock really too many to mention.

I'd go to www.hotwire.com and pick a 4+ star hotel.  I bet you will find some great prices.  Then just book a tee time anywhere in the area.  There are a lot of great choices in terms of golf courses and resorts...  The key to selecting a solid place to stay when using hotwire - is to pick one with ~ 80 reviews.  Then you know it is legit.

Stayed at the JW Marriott last year for a couple of days ... that place is very nice.  Did not golf unfortunately (back problems) but what I could see of the courses (they have 2 18 holers) from the hotel were pretty nice.  Plus there's 8 jillion (ever so slight exaggeration) other courses within about a 5 foot radius (another teensy tiny exaggeration) of the property.

A randomly unique, but cool thing they have an 18 hole real grass mini golf course right at the hotel complete with water, trees and sand traps.

Also, the spa (massage for the aforementioned back problems) there is really nice.

+1 for the JW Marriott as well.   If its too pricey (it might be close to $200/night or more), i've used priceline before.   there's lots of hotels and lots of courses, you won't have much of a problem.

give us a report when you get back!

Esmeralda Marriott @ Indian Wells. Not cheap but worth it. Lots of cheaper courses to consider in the area if you want to play a second day but I forget the names.

The desert is so great! I love playing there. Went to Jr College there actually.

PGA West's Stadium, Nicklaus or Norman courses. In that order for hard to easy golf. I'd recommend the La Quinta Resort over the Marriot. However, the Marriot is very nice too. Now is about the time to look for bargains too. The weather is just starting to turn HOT. Plan for August or July or June, if you're into heat that is...? Summer discounts can be had simply by calling the places directly.

Here's some threads that have already been made about the subject: Link

Thanks for all the responses and advice. It's been awhile but I've played desert dunes, tahquitz creek and one of the marriot course's....can't remember the name.

Golf in palm springs is definitely top-notch! I'll start making calls tomorrow....thanks again!

Oh, I almost forgot.

I may be taking my father in law with me...he's a 35-ish handicapper while I'm a 15. Which courses could we both have fun at?
