REVIEW: Moto ACTV Golf edition

Motorola Actv has been used for athletes and gym goers for a while now, but recently they released the Golf Edition.

Currently only the 16GB version is available for MSRP: $299.99

And soon they'll release the 8GB version.

If you already have the original ACTV, all you need to do is just download the firmware update and voila... Golf edition.

Charging: Super fast. Only takes around 1 hour to full charge.

Battery life: I have lasted 4 days almost 5 days just by using it as a watch.

Battery life for golf: 2-3 rounds.

Quality of wrist band: Cheap. The prongs to fasten the band are made of plastic, so expect one to break easily.

The craftsmanship of the band is also very undetailed and cheap, it doesn't look like they care how they made it, lines, etc.

The actv itself is pretty much all an athlete and a golfer would want to have on a watch. I owned a Garmin S1W for 5 months

and I have always had a small gripe as to why the watch's battery life is so bad, the screen is monochrome and it takes a long time to charge,

plus the charger is proprietary.

The LCD on the ACTV is marvelous. It's basically a mini android device. The GPS for golf is accurate and not only that, you can sync it to a MAC or PC

and it'll sync to your motorola account and they'll records all your progress, what shots you made and also compare them to how a pro would play those shots.

I haven't tapped into the full potential of the Golf app of this device, but it will do the things I want it to do, plus more.

Another option it has is of course MP3 player, all I can say it sounds great. One last option is the wireless connectivity. You can actually pair it with your phone

so that you can receive notifications on your watch and leave your phone in your bag.

MOTO ACTV has so many features that I know I will take time to discover them all. And most likely won't be using them all ^_^

My Conclusion:

Compared to the new Garmin S3w at $350 price tag, and no improvement from S1w, the MOTO ACTV Golf edition is a sure win.

Touch screen, Full color LCD, decent battery life, great GPS and other athletic functions, great MP3 player and more in one little watch.

the $250 8gb and $300 16gb price tag I think is still quite steep, however this is the best one out there so far.

I hope that Motorola will drop the price to $200 for the 16gb.

I hope this review have helped some of you interested in buying a watch GPS.

I just got this unit from the club pro to try out this weekend.

I set it up today and am wearing it to get used to it.

It is compact for that it is, but its still huge.  I've attached a picture of it on my wrist.

I'm not sue I could swing a club without this getting in the way.  It does have a belt clip, but I'd prefer it on my wrist if possible.  How does it compare in size to the Garmin S1?  I don't need or want all the extra golf features.  I just need distances.
