Titleist and Srixon - Opposite Messages Regarding Tour Golf Balls

Honestly, I think Titleist is right if you do not slice off of the tee box. I do not think there is a better ball around the green. But you do need to get there first........

It's hard to find a "bad" ball in 2012. I started golfing in the mid-80s. They were ALL duds back then - even the good ones.

There must be a reason Titleist is the number one ball on all tours!

Well you are comparing apples and oranges. The ProV1 series is comparable to the B330 series. The Bridgestone E series is a lower line

First thing to remember is these guys are selling golf balls.

I wouldn't argue that the Pro V1 series isn't a great ball, but,as stated above, unless you have a swing speed in excess of 105 MPH, probably there are better balls than the "tour" (3 piece) balls.  There are some pretty good 2 piece balls that are certainly less expensive and play both the short game and long game well.  I personally play the Srixon Q Star but have tried the new NXT tour S from Titleists and it is a great ball, albeit $7/doz more expensive than the Q Star.  But my advice is to just try a few.  Both the 2 major golf magazines have published golf ball tests on most of the popular balls in the recent past and are worth reading.  Good luck.

I don't know if there are many bad balls out there today. I just shot my best round ever with some Callaway Warbird Plus balls. I think they are just as long as the 4 dozen Bridgestone E7s I recently bought and just as soft as the 4 dozen NXT tours I played before those.

I think it's a case of the injun more than the arrow for most of us.

With Golf season starting to officially get underway with the weather nice and the swing has the rust beaten off I am starting to look at playing a consistent ball.

I've seen both commercials for these balls each saying the opposite.  Q star is saying that playing a ball like Pro V1 can hurt you.  While Titleist is saying the opposite.  So I was wondering which of these statements is true. My swing speed is 110 (driver I think) and I struggle most with driving occasionally I get a mean hook.

So In reality what is better to play for players like me.  (and at a $22/Doz price tag the Q star seems quite reasonable)

Unfortunately I have no where for golf shops in my region (Even anything that sells one sleeve) and was just hoping I could get a little bit of back ground knowledge before hand.

The Q Star is designed for players with clubhead speeds up to 95 mph.  I swing faster than that and still play them from time to time.  They don't feel as good as a ProV1 and the spin off the irons is less, but it's still a good ball.  If money is no object, I'd recommend the ProV1x's to you.  For me that ball flies like a distance ball off the tee.  Still has good spin off the irons.

If you're looking for a good spin ball that gives nice feel with great distance, try Srixon Z-star balls (also available in yellow, which I play). I went from the soft feel to z-star as I got more comfortable hitting at flags instead of playing the release.

ProV's were my ball of choice, but the price turned me away from them. I tried the Rocketballz earlier this year, not too bad of a ball, they were pretty long off the tee but didn't have the spin I wanted out of it. Then tried the NXT Tour S, good solid ball, long off tee, spin was ok. I went out last week and tried the Q-Star, this ball seems to have it all, long off tee and plenty of spin into the greens. Give them a try, and for under $25 how can you go wrong?
