Recently departed with a Bridgestone J38 10.5 with a Motore F1 S 65g at 45.5" to pick up a set of irons on trade. Turns out it may have been a good thing, as I was never reliable, often leaking balls off to the right, and just did not enjoy playing with it. R

ounding with only a 3 wood was considerably more enjoyable.

With a tournament coming up this weekend though, I ran off to a local shop to play around with the launch monitor and some of their stuff.

Smooth easy swing 90mph; getting hips into and what I would consider pushing my limit physically was 110mph and still reasonable smash factor (1.35-1.45).

Hit the following clubs:

Adams 9064LS, Rip Gamma (Yellow), 9.5*, 60g, S: 17.5-20* launch angle, 220-240 carry, 80 yard peak flight height. Misses were right

TaylorMade R9 Supertri 10.5, Not sure on weight configuration, TP Motore F3 shaft, 60g?, 18+ degree launch angle, 240 carry, 75 yard peak flight height.

Titleist 910D3 9.5, Kal'li 75g, X flex, Open face (not sure on precise setting), 15.9-18.0 degree launch angle, 240-260 carry, 60 yard peak flight height.

Favorite club head yet is either the 910D3 or a TM R9 Superdeep. Would prefer the Superdeep, but finding one has been difficult though unless it is 10.5*, which I just can't seem to get behind.

Anyone have any other ideas on club heads and shafts? I cannot seem to get into the mid or low teens consistently with launch angles.

Ogio Nexos Black on Black

Taylormade TP R9 Superdeep, 9.5, Aldila RIP A70X

Bridgestone J38 15, Motore F1 75S

Did you happen to see your spin rates? Were you on a Trackman launch monitor or some indoor thing you find at Golf Smith? If your ball speed is 140MPH which equates to about 233 carry distance your optimum launch angle would be 14-17* with a spin rate of 2350-2950. If your ball speed is 150MPH which equates to about 252 yards of carry your launch angle should be 13-16.5* with a spin rate between 2300-2800 for optimum distance.

The reason I ask about a Trackman or something at Golf Smith is it seems that their's are made to tell you you hit the ball further than you actually do.

As an 18 handicap who wasn`t hitting his last driver very good, it sounds like you should stick with the 3 W for the tournament and play around with a new driver later.
