Iron forgiveness question/New iron question

Hey guys a few quick questions.

1)I am currently playing some old supersteel burners however the black part on the hosel on some of the clubs is coming detached on a few of the clubs and when I hit the club it sounds almost dead. If the black part on the hosel of older clubs begins coming undone is it time to get some new clubs? It's not really worth paying for them to be fixed so I was just wondering if this was okay.

2)I'm looking for something fairly cheap with a bit better forgiveness. Would I notice a big difference in forgiveness between my old supersteel burners and a newer iron?

3)What are some good recommendations on some cheaper clubs with good forgiveness. Not looking to spend a fortune anywhere between 100-300$ would probably be my range. I know this isn't a lot, but I'm currenlty in college and just wanting to get something a bit more forgiving.

Well I am not quite sure the cost of repairing your clubs (it doesn't sound cheap) I would recommend getting new ones as I doubt it will be cheaper than $10 a club.  Personally I was in the same boat as you being a student and not wanting to spend a lot, I however saw it more as an investment and getting clubs that would last me 10+ years ans splurging to spend 650.  while I am not saying spend a whole lot take a look at www.callawaypreowned.com and maybe stretch your budget maybe $75 it is a great site that offers exceptional deals on clubs like the X20 and X18's that are very good for forgiveness without being ridiculously big shovels so they will give you forgiveness now as well as allow your game to grow.

Let's say you get the irons refurbished and reshafted. Count on $40 a club to refurb the heads, $10 to reshaft, $20 for the new shaft, and at least $5 for regrip. So... that's $75 per iron to retool vintage irons. So, consider mosnas 's advice.

Stock shaft on X18 and X20 was Uniflex (between regular and stiff in flex). The Uniflex had a mid kickpoint, so it won't balloon the ball like the old G10 and Big Bertha irons shafts would. You could probably find a trade-in set at a golf shop, meaning you could test-hit the club before you buy it. Also, Callaway issued the X20 NG (new groove) version last year to compete at the $400 price point - check out your local golf shop.
