So I currently carry driver 3 wood then 19* hybrid 3 iron then 5 iron and so on. I do this because my 4 iron is kind of ehh while i can just take some of my 3 iron and it feels more all purpose. I think I want to trade in my 3 iron and get something around a 23* hybrid. Im asking mostly for your opinions on the gap. I basically need something between a 19* hybrid and a 5 iron. What hybrid should fill the middle spot the best?

How far do you hit your 19* hybrid and how far do you hit your 5 iron?  Do you tend to hit the ball high or low with the hybrid?

I'd check into a 4H or something around 23*.  I think the yardage gap between a 3H and your 2H won't be wide enough and you'll end up with a 220 club when you really need something closer to a 210 club.  As long as you're not having issues ballooning the hybrid it seems like the way to go.  I'd highly recommend trying the Callaway Razr X Tour 4H.  Sweet club.

I've got a couple Callaway hybrids in with my Mizuno setup and think they're a good fit. Just don't be afraid to throw in a better shaft. I went with steel to match the feel of the irons they replace.

Don't count on getting anything for your 3i in trade-in. Try a 22* hybrid, and work on filling the gap. If you had a gap between your 22*H and the irons, you might choke up a little the shorter H to shave off yardage. At a 16 HDCP, let's say you average 205 yds. on the 4H. This means an OK shot would travel anywhere ffrom 200 to 210 yards. Precision yardage should be the focus of inside 100-yard shots.

You might take a lesson and see if the 4i problems are swing related, or possibly the 4i is out of tolerance for specs? Or, maybe you could get more out of the 4i if you soft-stepped the shaft (this would give you a little more lift out of the shaft).

Focus, connect and follow through!

haha I actually meant I have the 755s by titleist and on my 4iron the red gel piece fell out so whether it makes a difference with contact or not it makes me lack confidence mentally. I hit my 3 and my 5 iron pretty well but I am just so happy with how I hit my new 19*Hybrid. I also didnt mean I would trade in my 3iron I meant i would take it out of my bag and add the hybrid as my new 14th club.

If you're a red gel purist, you might find a 755 demo 6iron and transfer the gel to the 4i. Or, e-mail Titleist and see if they have a red gel bit somewhere in their factory; if cost is low, it would be nice to refurb the 4i. Know what you mean about irons looking presentable.

thats a pretty good idea. I have always looked for 4 irons on ebay but i never though about buying one of the million 6 irons and just swapping. I dont even have to worry about shaft specs and what not.

What is the loft on the 4 iron?  27 degrees?  I'm not very familiar with the 755s.  If you're looking at filling the gap, maybe try out a few hybrids in the 22-24 degree range and see how they fill in the gap.  Looking at the same line as the 19 degree hybrid you're happy with now seems like a good place to start.

Also, have you considered something a little more foregiving in a 4 iron?  Maybe substitue somethign like an AP1?

I had trouble with my 4 iron (I play MP-52s) and thought about doing something alongs the line of a more foregiving iron, or a hybrid... but luckily my 4 iron just kind of starting working for me out of the blue.  Lowered my HCP by a few shots this year as a result of having that shot in the bag.

Good luck Jimdangle and let us know how it works out!

    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
    • Please forgive the sweaty shirt.  Just got off the treadmill and decided to do my Evolvr drill.
    • I'd agree that 4w seems like the right play here. I'm not a course designer or anything but that hole looks like it could be so much more fun if everyone played from those front 2 tee boxes that are right outside your shot cone and they cut down most of the trees down that left side of the fairway. That would give risk reward to long hitters who want to try and push it up to that left fairway, allow more players to reach that second fairway, and still allowing it to be perfectly playable for someone who only hits driver like 150yds off the tee.   Yeah it looks like 4iron aimed at that inside edge of the right bunker is the play there, especially if you don't expect a 20mph tailwind again. If it is down wind again, 5iron would be just fine too, it'd still get you inside 150yds for your approach.  Keep in mind tee marker locations too, you measured that one from the back so if those tee markers are moved all the way towards the front of that box then 5 iron is probably best just to be sure that right bunker is never in play.
    • Day 1: worked on my drill for my arms.
    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
