Did you know your left side should be dominant?

According to LPGA Hall of Famer Kathy Whitworth:
"The golfer's left side must be the dominant part of the swing.  This is the only way to get maximum power and accuracy.  If the right side takes over, there is no golf swing."
Obviously, if you're a lefty you would need to apply this principle to your right side!

Hey, why don't you go ahead and post a video of your lefty one handed swing hitting some balls and I'll post my righty version and let's see who has no swing.

Edit: I realize you're not talking about one handed swings, but stil, I say garbage.

Wasn't Hogan left handed playing right handed clubs?

Which if true probably has more to do with poverty as a kid then anything else.

I took it as, if your naturally a right handed person (write, throw, etc...), you should golf left handed, as your dominant hand is your leading hand. And vice versa for lefties.

I don't think that is what the OP meant, I think he/she means to keep your right side passive (but I'm not really sure what that means either LOL) but seeing as the OP is taking a pass on any kind of elaboration I guess we'll have to ask Kathy Whitworth.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Rule #1 of Golf Instruction: Never deal in absolutes.  Never ever.  Absolutely never.

I just made that one up.  You're welcome.

Garbage.

Many old time pros, had upright swings, especially women, they created distance with arc and rhythm. Their bad shots tended to be hooks. There is more emphasis on body rotation now. Since most amateurs naturally use their dominant side, emphasizing the left helped new golfers use their left side. Obviously both sides, both legs, arms, feet, hands work in concert. Like a lot of old saws it addresses an issue from a playing pros perspective, prevent the hook, get weight through the shot, and keeps new golfers from over using their dominant side. As more more fundamentally realistic description of how a golf good swing are created this type of trial and error instruction is dying. The possible exception is the pro tips included in golf magazines:-).

Wow, I had no idea a quote from an LPGA Hall of Famer would get this reaction!

I've also been told this (your left should be dominant) by a fellow golfer, who I golf with often and is a 17 time club champion, guess it works for her.  I know that if I don't let my left take over I lose a lot of my follow through.  But hey, whatever works for you is the swing you should work on!  In golf, like life, there are no absolutes!  Left or right, enjoy the game!

I don't know much about the golf swing yet, but I don't understand how letting your left side take over improves your follow-through..
