I have a steep, outside in swing, that causes me to hit a lot of balls off of the hosel, and break clubs easily. The hosel shots are diminishing and I've not breaking as many clubs as I was at the start of the season, but I'm still hitting too much off the heel side. The headcover drill and those similar to it help me, but I'm still stuggling to be  a swinger and not a hitter.

Some people learn to hit from the inside by taking the club back outside and then looping it inside on the downswing.

I've seen a lot of people who take the club back too far inside and then cast it out to start their downswing.  They just need to reverse the loop.

I disagree. I don't think they need a loop to begin with. Take it back on a reasonable plane, return the club down a reasonable plane. No need for loops.

(The downswing plane is almost always slightly higher than the backswing plane, but that's due to the way the trail elbow folds and a few other things, and isn't what I'm calling a "loop" at all.)

I fell into a serious case of cutting across the ball as a kid.  The only thing that snapped me out of it was grossly overdoing it the other way.  I agree with you, technically what you are saying is obviously the better way to go about it.
