2 shots immediately come to mind. Β The first was on a short 200 yard par 3. Β I went up with a 3 iron thinking I'll swing easy and be on without a problem. Β Well, I tried to kill it and topped the ball into a true worm burner. Β The ball continued to roll after hitting the ground about 100 yards to the green....and then rolled onto the green. Β My father was actually pissed as I made par on the hole. Β Even wrote on the score card "LUCKY...TOPPED BALL...ROLLED TO GREEN"

The other crazy shot was on a 385 par 4 on a local executive 9. Β I was playing my second shot from the fairway with about 100 yards to the green. Β I took out my sand wedge and pushed the ball way right. Β My friend (who was down one stroke and was down 1 stroke) said "can't win them all." Β The ball had other thoughts in mind. Β It landed right of a sand trap, nailed a sprinkler head, bounced onto the green, and rolled in for the only eagle I've ever shot. Β Needless to say my friend was stunned and pissed at the same time.

2 weeks ago, I shanked a 9 iron.Β  Nailed a tree and ricocheted straight left onto the green.Β  There was a pond right behind the tree, so if I had missed the tree it would have been wet.

Here is the hole:

psNOI.jpg

It's about a 180 yard Par 3 and those arrows show everything slopes severely down to the water, even the green. Β For whatever reason I hit it dead left, hit a tree and my ball comes to rest next to a tree at the white dot above. Β I have no shot other than to play it left handed. Β So I play it, land it just over the cart path (near the tail of the bottom red arrow) and the ball takes a hop, trickles, trickles, trickles on to the green an runs down to about 3 inches for a tap-in par.

On the 9th hole, a long uphill par 4 that was once a par 5 and really ought to be a 4.5, had a chip on for my 4th stroke. Bladed the hell out of it and watched, dumbfounded, as it landed cleanly in the cup against the pin for par. No bounce, no marks on the lip, nothing. Just a laser that disappeared with a clatter against the pin.

Glad no one was watching. Finally made par on the hole.

Short par 4. Β Hit a 5 iron to the middle of the fairway. Β Then took a wedge (140 yds left) and skulled it. Β It rolled straight into the hole for my first eagle! Β I have had many more eagles since then, but that was my first eagle.

About 7 years ago, a buddy of mine took up golf for the first time. Β On his 5th round out, he hits a shank on a short par 3. Β Hits a tree and bounces back towards the green and goes in for an Ace!!! Β He hasn't had a hole-in-one since.

Both shots were bladed to varying degrees. Β First one was probably twenty years ago. Β I had a nine iron in my hand after a nice drive on the 17th of the Harry Pritchett Golf Course - which no longer exists - and I bladed it bad. Β The ball never got more than about three feet off the ground, and I yelled some expletive of frustration. Β The ball didn't listen to my frustration, and it just kept going until it had rolled up onto the front of the green. Β Two putted for par. Β The second shot was a couple of years ago at River Pines in Alpharetta. Β I don't remember the hole because I've only played there once, but I had about 200 yards left uphill on a long par four. Β I caught my three iron a little thin - not as bad as the other one - and I figured I would be short of the green. Β Walked up and found it three inches from the cup for a tap in birdie.

Straight par 4, hooked a drive 50 yards out of play. On a fly, the ball hit the railroad tracks that run parallel to the hole and bounced back into the middle of our fairway.

On a par 4 during a high school practice round... I hit a crap drive - hooked it hard left into some deep rough. Β My second shot was with a 5i. Β Chunked it and the ball went 15 or 20yds - but I was able to get it back into the fairway. Β I was ticked off and broke my 5i by stepping on the shaft and snapping it. Β My next shot was from ~ 140yds and it flew into the hole for a birdie.

That was the first and last golf club I ever broke. Β Our entire foursome was laughing our tails off.

Pitching from about 25 yards, I skull it 45* right of my target, hit a mound in front of the green that kicks it back left, rolls into the cup.

Here's one my father told me yesterday.

About a million years ago (ok, maybe 40), he and his father were playing a course in Eastern Long Island, NY. Β Well apparently there was a farm that was on the edge of one of the holes behind the green. Β The wooden fence that separated the farm and the course was about 20 yards behind the back of the green. Β Well my dad was about 100 yards out and takes a swing. Β The ball goes flying over, nails the wooden fence and came back and landed about 4 feet from the hole. Β If that isn't luck....

I was playing in the first tournament I ever played in a couple years ago and I was playing horrible. On a long par 4 I hit a great drive straight down the middle. I then proceed to top my 8 iron and the ball rolled all the way to the green, 6 inches from the hole. The guys I was playing with couldn't believe it. Of course, neither could I.

What is a short 200 yard par 3?

My friend and I were playing a $1/hole and we couldn't stop tying. On a hole with a peninsula green (my nemisis hole), I get on the green in 2 but about 25 feet away. He hits it fat and is going in the water, however then it hits the bridge, takes a huge bounce onto the green about 8 feet from the cup. My par did not beat his birdie. Including the roll-overs, got about $8 in that one hole, not big money, but principle.

My hole-in-one, the green sits in kind of an ampitheater, very steep hill on the left and back.Β  I pulled the tee shot and it hit the hill on the left, bounced straight right and ran across the green, right into the cup!

Where to start. Seems like I have a couple of ugly shots every round that end up working out. Hooked a 3w off the tee on a long par-4Β Sat that flew low and into the trees. Turned out it rolled out there about 250 yds. Decided toΒ attempt a light 4i just to punch it out and get into wedge range. Hit it thin and it came out hot and rolled up to the fringe about 10 feet from the pin. Easily the "worst" shots I hit all day and it was the only hole on a bad round where I had a legit birdie chance.

Dave :-)

Just to be clear. How did you play a left hand shot? you carry a left club with you, or did you hit with the club upside down? in witch case i say *high five for aWsomeness*

Our thoughts are: a. if the item is a lemon, it will likely break right away and we can attempt to apply the original warranty or credit card extension. b. over the long haul, we will probably save more money by not purchasing the extended warranty and fixing/junking broken items out of our own pocket. The important thing is to keep some records of purchases so one may make a claim under the manufacturer's warranty. I recently sent back some Footjoy shoes for leaking and Footjoy did a reat job of making the claim process work very well. I had the original receipt, warrant info and box. Easy peasy.
