After reading a bunch of the tall guy and different fitting threads I have a couple questions. First for those of you that got the longer clubs are you glad you did? Did it help your game immediately? Or a step in the right direction? Or just comfort thing? Next I'm wondering if this is in my head or legit issue. I've never had had lessons and this is my second full year of playing weekly golf. I know I have things to work on and clubs/fitting isn't going to magically fix anything. When I golf I'm shooting either 45 or a 60. I feel, and it may not be true, but I feel that I'm using to much of my legs and or back to get under the ball. When I'm off I don't have an issue with draws or slicing its either topping the ball or taking a shovel sized divet. With an occasional catching the toe on the ground. I'm 6'3 and wondering if going longer on my clubs allowing me to use"less" muscles to maintain my height help? I plan on getting properly fitted after I heal from surgery this week and I know lessons and practice are necessary. But is my logic bs or am I on somewhat of the right path? Sorry for the clambering on and I hope it makes sense. Thanks Mike

I am 6'8" and getting fit was great for me as I had a hard time playing 18 holes without back pain creeping in late in the round and I was in my 20s.  As well as getting very fatigued in the core muscles due to attempting to not raise up.  Did I instantly improve my game... no chance, lessons and practice will do that.  But I was able to improve my scores as I was able to hold up over 18 holes.

With that said, as I have gotten more lessons and gotten better I am fairly certain that I could shorten my clubs a bit.  So my advice would be to get a few lessons, get a more consistent posture and then get fitted for clubs.  Save you some money in the long run.

The real key is the distance your wrists are from the ground. A 5 foot 9 person with short arms might need extended clubs while a tall person with longer arms can use standard clubs.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
