Man, the more I read about the upcoming US Open it sounds as if it may very well end up in a blood bath. I personally have mixed feelings, it is neat to see even the best players in the world reduced to happily making pars, but once in a while they get too hard on the setup in my opinion.

We'll see, I'm looking forward to an exciting week.

I agree; I have been reading Golf Digest's Open Preview over the last few days, and I it seems that things could get nasty for the players. When you get the defending champion (after playing a practice round last Monday and shooting 85, Ogilvie said he wasn't hitting it that bad) saying that he would take his chances with 9 over for the tournament and not bother playing, you know it's tough. Sounds like it could get tougher than Shinnecock 2 years ago. I guess some of it depends on the weather too. Anyone from the East Coast seen any forecasts?

Mind you, I remember reading about how tough Whistling Straits was going to be for the PGA two years ago, and it ended up being not so bad.

Either way, I can't wait to watch it. A Father's Day tradition; sit in my Lazy Boy and catch the final round without anyone bugging me.

Yowzer.. good luck guys

13.5 is nothing. I read that about half of the greens there are so undulating that they're unmeasurable, anyway. Best putting practice, I think, would be down a driveway.

It's going to be like putting on glass.

My anticipation levels are astronomical right now. I think anyone in the field would take even par over the four days. Narrow fairways, thick rough, 13.5 on the stimpmeter. Good luck fellas

I love how difficult this course is going to play. It may not be as fun to watch, but I think at least one PGA tour stop each year should frustrate the pros as much as a difficult course frustrates the average golfer.

I think a super-difficult course adds a mental element to the competition that isn't present when players are scoring at -15. Frustration is part of the game and at least one tournament each year should have the sole goal of frustrating the pros. I think a player's ability to keep his composure after one or two blow-up holes is a component of the game which is not tested enough.

I wouldn't want every tournament of the year to play this hard, but it is nice that our national championship is known for being tough.

I really like every ONCE in a while watching an incredibly tough course humble even the best players in the world, the way an average course humbles me. I don't want to see that every day, just like I don't want to watch the super bowl every day, but it's nice to know that even people who have "mastered" the game can be humbled by a sufficiently difficult course.

What makes it even more fun, is that it's a major, so that you KNOW the best are going to be there.

I can't wait, personally.

Since it seems everyone likes to see a course that will humble the top players, you will like the article i wrote for the numbers game column. It will be posted tomorrow.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
