weak card imho.  it's amazing though how many fans come out in brazil, and how truly large the sport is over there.  a good attendance for a card in the states is around 15k; the card last night sold out an olympic sized stadium.  the fx card friday in AC had around 4,000 spectators (albeit the capacity of the venue).

i am absolutely pumped for 148 though.  WAR SONNEN!!!

War Sonnen?? WTF?? That's not very smart of you brah!

Anyway, that's what I heard everybody complain about, that the cards were weak. And you did see some blatant amateurism at certain points.

But the last three fights were really good. Co-main event was a TUF Brasil final, but the guys were rumbling. Verdum did what he was supposed to do, but the old guys man! Franklin is still  a fighter, and it was so cool to see.

With that, from the last fights and events I've seen, it seems to me like the game is emphasising stand-up a whole lot more, and wrestling is becoming less and less relevant.

Exactly.  They had way too many matches changed or cancelled due to "injury" for it to be a full price PPV.  I checked my cable companies PPV to see if Dana reduced the price but he hadn't even though he gave ticket holders three days to get their money back.  I'm not paying $54 for a card full or brazillian fighters that are not really in the Top 10.  I did hear most of the fights were entertaining, so those that did pay weren't as upset as I thought they'd be.  I hope Sonnen wins too, I can't stand Silva.

I did not buy the card but I sure will order Sonnen vs. Silva.  Any card with Wand as the main event is too weak for a PPV.

agreed.  how many devastating ko's does he have to be on the shit end of to finally call it a day?  it's almost criminal that dana lets him compete.

Brah, I want to see Chael get his ass destroyed as much as the next guy, but I am actually slightly concerned for him.

Thank GOD there will be a ref in the Octagon. I think Chael went too far this time - in pissing off Anderson, that is.

Not going to happen.  Silva lost four rounds to him the last time they fought.  If not for sloppiness on Sonnens part getting caught in the triangle he's the new champ.  This time I expect Silva to be more aggressive but that's not his preference, so I see Chael using that anger to his benefit.  Sonnens flags his gums too much but Silva is MMA scum, his arrogance combined with the taunting of lesser opponents is totally against what MMA is about.  Only guy I like less than Silva in MMA is Bones Jones.

if chael comes straight at him with zero head movement like he did against bisping, then silva has a chance of catching him - however, chael is far too smart a fighter to do that, and he underestimated bisping in their match-up.  i see it playing out much the same as the first fight.  silva isn't known for having world-beating take down defense, and chael's MO is unwavering: pressure, take down, smother.  silva's best/only chance is another submission off his back.

+1 newtogolf, couldn't agree more.  JBJ is the only fighter who is a bigger dirtbag than silva.  rashad evans said it best: "jon jones uses religion like a politician uses religion."

This... except I think Silva's best chance will be a knockout because I don't think Chael will make the same mistake if the fight goes to the ground. I also dislike JBJ but he's so good and as of right now I don't see another 205 fighter beating him. Henderson has a punchers chance but that's the closest he can get to winning that fight.

I agree 100% about Sonnen fight and JBJ.  Sonnen knows his mental lapse lost him the fight, he will look to finish this one.  Last time he showed mercy and tried to convince the ref to stop it, this time if he's given the chance he's going to shatter Silva's face until the ref stops him.  Silva needs a sneaky win, either kick, knee or submission.  He's so angry right now I doubt he'll be able to stick to the game plan.  I'm sure Sonnen has something planned for the weigh ins just to make sure Silva is good and angry fight night.

JBJ is a great fighter, and prior to his riff with Evans I almost liked him.  Evans was right about him being fake and a religious poser.  JBJ has freakish reach which makes his so tough at 205.  He's really a heavy weight since on fight day he's closer to weighing 225 than he is 205.  I doubt Henderson can get close enough to hurt him, but he does have a better chance the most given his KO power.

this is new for anderson - he usually does nothing to promote a fight.  i bet this is genuine hatred.

Ehhh....I think it was scripted to add more buys.  Dana has said that he wants 1 million buys for this card and we all know that Anderson has never talked like this before.

I actually like Sonnen.  He's the only person that has the balls to speak his mind, confront the athletic commission about their crap, and to call the media out for their lies and lack of knowledge. The guy is pretty intelligent and no matter how much crap he talks, he ALWAYS backs it up....unlike most fighters.  Chael did exactly what he wanted to do and I don't think Anderson can keep Chael from taking him down.  And Anderson needs to be MUCH MUCH more aggressive than het has been in the past from his back.

Won't happen.  He was looking past Bisping, I don't care what he says.

Silva's TDD sucks!  I see it going about the same as well.

I think the chances of Silva KO'n Sonnen are small. Sonnen has a helluva chin and I don't think he will give Anderson that many chances.  Not to mention, Sonnen is the one that got the better of the standup initially.  The fear of a TD really stalls out a great standup game.....especially once you've taken a beating from the guy on the ground before.

Henderson has a great chance IMO.  He's a better wrestler with the same style.  He has a better chin, and more KO power.  if Henderson can stall out Jones' reach, it's Hendo's fight to lost.  I think Machida showed that constant pressure is what will beat Jones....and Hendo comes forward always.

Mental lapse?  How many times can you have a mental lapse before it's considered a weakness?  Sonnen is probably best known for getting caught in the triangle.  I mean the guy has been beat 4 times by the same submission.  He didn't show mercy either. Anderson did more damage to Sonnen from the bottom than Sonnen did from the top.  It's hard to finish a guy when he's landing harder shots than you. Kick, knee, or submissions are not sneaky wins....that's fighting.  A spinning back elbow is a sneaky win.  The others are setup for a while in advance. Most people think that Anderson pulled that sub out of his butt at the last second, but he had been setting that up for 2 or 3 rounds. You can see him in the 3rd (I believe) already setting it up.  That was a plan because it was Sonnen's weakness.  I'm sure it wasn't meant to be that late in the fight, but the sub was being setup far before that.

225 is nothing.  That's what Anderson and Sonnen both walk around at. Jones is just tall with a lot of reach. I believe Hendo can get in on Jones better than Machida did.

After saying all of this, I like Anderson Silva.  I used to hate Sonnen but I really like him now.  He speaks what's on his mind, he doesn't sugar coat anything, and he backs it up.  What else can you ask for?  I am so pumped for this fight!  The pre-fight hype has worked on me.   I really see it going much like the first IF...IF, Anderson doesn't KO him early.  Anderson needs to bring it in this fight.  I really think that we haven't seen near 100% of what Anderson has to offer and I think it's going to take that to beat Sonnen again.

Ahh, Chael huggers??!!

Chael has a tough chin?? Did you guys miss what Anderson did to Forrest Griffin? You telling me Chael has a tougher chin??

That first fight with Chael was the first time in years that Anderson looked human. Post-fight check-ups confirmed his broken ribs (as per b/r), Chael had an abnormally high testosterone ratio, and you guys think that the first fight was indicative of what is to come?

Believe you me guys, Chael will lose his belt in two weeks time! -- see what I just did there? I tried to see things from your persective!

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
