Playing 9 or 18 by yourself. - Page 3

At least 75% of my time golfing is done solo or partnered up with other singles. That's a great part of the game, you don't need anyone else to play with you. I find it more relaxing when I play by myself. I don't need to keep a conversation going, I can just enjoy the game, relax, and concentrate on hitting my shots. I don't have a ton of friends that golf, and the ones that do have opposite schedules as me or can't golf as much as I do. 

I am in the Navy so I am constantly losing playing partners to transfers.  So, I have no qualms showing up alone to play.  I can always join a 3-some.

I play with others, but only because I have others to play with. 

I would never let not having a partner prevent me from playing golf. It just so happens that my little brother is as into golf as I am, so I am lucky in that regard. 

That said, the few times I have played alone have been very nice. 

I played yesterday morning by myself.  As the first one off I got in front of the next group and finished in 2 1/2 hours.  I counted every stroke but rehit a few really poor first putts on the back nine and a few from the fairway. That was my first round by myself in years but I'll definitely do it again.  Later in the day it got to 105 degrees in Houston so I'm glad that I got out before it got too bad.

I play alone quite a lot , unless i have some excitement in my scoring , ie im having a good round , i find it quite melancholy , however there are green   parakeets flying around on my local par three  and they keep me company

I play 9 by myself usually or sometimes I take my 6 yr old son with me. I like to think thru my shots and take my time so I try to go during non peak times. usually very early in the morning or late in the day.

That's what I do as well......when I find the time.

I play as a single often... there is nothing lame about it. Often times you'll get paired up with somebody else as well... you can meet a lot of good people on the course that way.

I use to play 9 holes alone at 5:30 in the morning before work, but the course I play now doesn't open until 6:45, so it's difficult to get 9 in before work and get to work on time.  I don't believe there is anything lame about playing alone, and I enjoy both playing alone as well as with others, because all I really want to do is play.

 Pay for a foursome and go out alone and you can claim this but if everybody wanted to play as a single just because they paid then the courses income would decrease by about 75 percent and then you would have NO course to play at all.

Back when I was working shift work I often played by myself.  Beats the other option of not playing at all!  And if the course is busy it's usually pretty east to join up with another group.  If you're not comfortable playing with people you don't know, then you can always politely decline if you're asked to play along.  Just get out on the course any way you can!

Believe it or not, there are places where such a thing is very difficult to do.  If he has a job working more than 40 hours a week, he may not have the opportunity to play whenever he wants.

To Goonsidious:  Most of us went through that phase before we found out that most players have no problem playing with a relative beginner.  Learn proper etiquette and play at a good pace - you will find that nobody cares if you take a few more strokes to get the job done.  After all, we were all beginners once. 

I think you'll find that, for some people, golf is too addicting to wait until enough people are gathered to play.  When you're playing poorly you can't wait to get out to the course again to prove you are better than that, and when you are playing greatly you can't wait to get to the course again to prove you are better than that.

a lot of people who play suck. i have spent plenty of times looking for other people's missed shots as well as my own. even in a group of 4 it seems like only 1 guy will be pretty good and the rest just duffers.

to be fair, on the first tee i just tell the person/people that i'm playing with that i'm not good so that they can prepare themselves.
