You see that red piece? Well today, just now actually.. I was at the range for the first time with this thing.. and apparently after a few swings it broke off and was nowhere to be seen.

I continued and everything still seemed fine.. but what do I know..

Do any of you know exactly what that piece does? Should I go back to Golfsmith and get a replacement club? I do love the driver.. just dont want this to continue.

I took the quicker approach and just drove 30min to Golfsmith.. got a hold of a nice associate who actually knew what he was talking about!

He mentioned "light" are you sure this is best for you?

I honestly have no idea what flexes are and which is which.. but apparently light is high flex which means when my arms are ready to make contact with the ball.. the club head is still back trying to catch up.. and not best for me.

He got the manager and he agreed that there is no reason why I should be using this, ha.

So they allowed me to go to their simulator thing and try a stiff flex.. i took a few whacks at it.. and hit it really really poor. Kind of embarrassing tbh. No glove[which really affects me] and a low tee, on top of the countless feet positions and swing types that were going through my head.. really made me look like a fool. I mentioned the stiff one just didnt feel right [i hope i dont really need a stiff] and asked if I could try the regular.. he and i talked about a few tips, i listened a bit, then took a few jabs. I did fairly decent.. and instead of having a 'Callaway FT-iZ light 11degree" I left with a 'Callaway FT-iz reg flex 9degree'

We'll see how it goes on the range tomorrow.

I was hoping it would be un-used and still in wrapping.. but oh well.

un-used and wrapped didn't do much for my old one.. a piece broke off.. lol.

But hopefully this driver does well and feels good to me.. so I know what flex is best.

That driver is GARBAGE, I had one threw it in the trash where it belongs, I'll stick with my Nicklaus driver, about 1000x better than that piece of crap

Thats your opinion I guess.  I think it is a pretty darn good driver if you ask me.

Wow! I dont think they would be making them if they were garbage. Anyway good luck and hit it straight.

Thanks. I quite like the driver.. if I get the correct flex and it doesn't keep breaking apart on me.

This is my first big club purchase really.. top brand and all.. my last driver was too embarrassing to reveal. So I don't really have experience with other brands and types of drivers.. but I love the feel of this one, and it's a good hit [was so pleased at the range].

I'll see how this one plays later in the week.

I'd like to know why, Mike, you call it a "garbage" club.. what failed for you?

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
