Got paired with a stranger today--first time - Page 3

I give credit to the OP for going out solo with only seven weeks experience and carding far better than a 140. Keep at it and we want hear when your down to double digits. Get used to being paired up with strangers. It's part of golf, at least public golf, and most of us behave more nicely than here.

Some final thoughts, if the course isn't backed up, it's OK to offer to split if one guy is too slow or the other is too fast. Not okay to offer a ride to someone at first tee. Course expected the guy to pay for a cart if he's gonna ride  Offer a ride later  if it's a long walk to the next tee, if you get behind or if it's late in the round and a hot  day,

As for the angry birds things, who cares?!  Not sure why everyone is getting their panties all bunched up because the guy made a joke about playing around with a smart phone.  I do it all the time when I am waiting for people infront of me.  Just grab the phone, check emails, send a text, google random things, and the occasional angry birds.  I don't hit the ball then automatically start flinging birds around, but yeah if there is a lull in the play i'll look at my phone.  I shoot the same either way.

And to the rest of the people in this thread that want to keep piling on me about what I do on the course, here is a giant e1_poo.gif sandwich for you all.

D*** you. I was litterally about to write this exact thing basically but decided I should read the thread first. Seeing as how we appearantly thought alike, you sir are a genius.

as to the op. like everyone else said you came on as d bag and got disrespected by d bags. somebody said something about bashing this kid for playing angry birds but the kid was coming on here to bash on the old man he had to play with today. all is fair and I think sometimes people in this forum can be obnoxious and grumpy sounding, the bashing in this thread seemed pretty fair.

Im not even sure what your post was about, you had to play with some old guy that was way better than you and your mad that he walked for exercise. I wouldn't bash other peoples beliefs or thoughts or reasons for what they do. If you werent in school or whatever as an older guy who probably sits behind a desk what would you do for exercise? pay extra money to rider around in a cart instead of exercising and then go home and go for a run then?

probably not going to make many friends telling them to eat crap.  your also not going to get many tips either, lol.  play how you want to play but, keep in mind you joined a golf forum.  a forum where people take their game seriously, work on it day in and day out, have been doing it for years and years and are constantly trying to find any way to take even one stroke off their game.

you are a beginner at the game.  i hope you enjoy it the way we do.  in time, if you continue to play and get more serious about the game, our gripes will become your gripes.

im sure your partner had a bunch of complaints about you, lol.  maybe next time instead of playing angry birds, you could practice your swing with various clubs, drive over to your walking partner and watch his shot or ask questions.

golf is a game, but it is also very close to or and actual obsession to a lot of us.

i hope you continue to play and improve.  there are a lot of great people on this forum with a lot of great advice to give.

I didnt join with the intent to make friends, and if they are gonna jump my ass for playing a game on my phone while waiting (whether I did or didn't), I wouldnt consider them friends anyway.

Who said I didnt take the game seriously?

Maybe he did, maybe he didnt.  He didnt seem to want to be paired, frankly I would have rather played alone.

Point taken, but I shouldnt get jumped for doing something non-golf related on a golf course.  I dont care who you are.

I'm playing tomorrow, and Thursday, and Saturday and Sunday

*Edited for clarity*

I didn't jump on you for playing angry birds. I just simply said to be so quick to cast a stone on the walker for being slow. you will be there one day. Thanks for the sandwich.

I never cast a stone at my walking partner.  Obviously he is going to be slower than I am in a cart.

You got your sandwich for agreeing with this jewel:

Idc about why you gave me the sandwich dude. I tried to give my opinion respectfully and you have been WAY too defensive throughout this thread. when you find only find 4 posts that don't agree with you but have compassion for you then maybe you should reevaluate your opinion. maybe just maybe you're in the wrong. just say, "no guys i was joking about the angry birds" instead of attacking everybody who gave you their opinions after YOU asked for them by posting on this thread. Once again I really dont care what you did on the course but you are being a little immature over this whole thread. you posted some snide comment in another thread about how, "you aren't allowed to have a different opinion than anybody else on the forum"

Hey, hasn't this dude been banned before? He seems familiar somehow...

Well, like I said, you completely agreed with the below post, and then by saying you "really dont care what I do on the course" is quite contradictory.

This entire thread started about me posting about a new golf experience, and that it was 'less than ideal' because I rode, and he walked.  Then, I did say that the playing of Angry Birds was an exaggeration, and no one believed me.  Heck, I use two apps alone for distance and scoring, I dont want to screw up my golf apps by opening a game.  But, no one will believe that either.

I never asked for an opinion on anything, simply mentioned my golfing experience that day.  Then people came out and basically said I suck at golf.

Have I been immature? An argument can me made, sure.  Defensive?  Sure.  The comment in the other thread, probably out of line, but this thread isnt the first time I have seen someone get their ass jumped for not being completely, totally dedicated to golf on the course.

And then you question my exercise regiment.  Wow, man, if you only knew.

I didn't mention anything about your exercise regiment.

I said I agreed with his post for its comedy. I was just reading the thread and thinking it would be extremely funny if the old guy was on here complaining about you and I was planning on joking about it before he did it.

Nobody knows whether or not you were actually playing but when you get defensive it gives reason for people to believe otherwise.

Welcome to golf and 115 is not a bad score for 7 weeks. I started playing only a year ago and so did my buddies. Last week one of those buddies shot a 115. Its a tough sport. Good luck.

Dont let me or any of the other d bags on here get you down. Enjoy golf and use this site as a resource if nothing else.

Well, I didnt consider it as comedy.  I took it as being ganged up on.

And thank you for the comment on my score.  3 strokes less than last week.  a1_smile.gif

I remember shooting between 114 to 117 for weeks and then finally something clicked and shot about 101 and hoovered there for weeks til I broke 100 Now im hoovering lower. It will just come in time. Things will click.

Unfortunately, I have that feeling that as soon as something clicks, something else won't  g1_wacko.gif

Gotta make sure to not lift my head!

Yeah, I could have spent the downtime better, but it is what it is.

Dude didnt seem to want a random partner, neither did I.

He recently had back surgery, his walk was my crawl

He drove it left, I drove it right.  Other than the green, we were never within 30 yards of each other.

I do enough running/marching to not want to walk 18 holes, $10 is worth it.

If you dont like my score after 7 weeks of playing, FU

And for the people who dont understand hyperbole, i didnt actually play Angry Birds.

And there it is.  You are not only an a-hole, you are a lying a-hole.  You don't follow up "hyperbole" by admitting that you could have spent the downtime better.  Better than what???  Obviously playing Angry Birds or you would have made your "hyperbole" defense then and there.  A simple, "Hey I was kidding about playing angry birds" might have been believable, but saying you could have spent your downtime better just cemented that you really were playing angry birds.

I'm guessing that you are shortly going to disappear from this place now that you know we aren't stupid enough to buy your particular brand of BS.  I doubt you will be missed.

PS:  and btw, even had you been telling the truth, that is not hyperbole.  Hyperbole would be saying that the guy took 16 hours to play the round.  Or he walked as if his bag weighed a ton.

I just lost 3 minutes of my life reading this thread, but some where in those 3 minutes I smirked.
