Got paired with a stranger today--first time - Page 3  

I usually prefer to play alone.  I've been paired up before and its been fine, actually had some fun and met some decent folks.  But if i take the time to go golfing by myself, there is usually a reason.  Usually i want peace and quiet, want to practice particular aspects of my game, and have something stressful on my mind and would prefer to concentrate on something other than that stress, golf works wonders for taking my concentration.  

As for the angry birds things, who cares?!  Not sure why everyone is getting their panties all bunched up because the guy made a joke about playing around with a smart phone.  I do it all the time when I am waiting for people infront of me.  Just grab the phone, check emails, send a text, google random things, and the occasional angry birds.  I don't hit the ball then automatically start flinging birds around, but yeah if there is a lull in the play i'll look at my phone.  I shoot the same either way.  

I have same compassion for you OP.  The fact that a bunch of people came on this thread to trash playing "Angry Birds" is a bit silly.  Why waste your time typing a response into the box if it's just a negative comment with absolutely no benefit.  I think this forum is full of grumpy old men who are bitter because their depends are leaky.

I do have to give you credit for playing solo after only picking up the game so recently.   I have always been more than happy to walk a round solo,  but in the beginning of the season etc.,  I find it quite stressful  (although it should be the opposite)  to go out and hack up a round alone.....  at least when I'm with friends I have company while I'm struggling,  rather than just beating myself up over every poor shot I take.

I give credit to the OP for going out solo with only seven weeks experience and carding far better than a 140. Keep at it and we want hear when your down to double digits. Get used to being paired up with strangers. It's part of golf, at least public golf, and most of us behave more nicely than here.

Some final thoughts, if the course isn't backed up, it's OK to offer to split if one guy is too slow or the other is too fast. Not okay to offer a ride to someone at first tee. Course expected the guy to pay for a cart if he's gonna ride  Offer a ride later  if it's a long walk to the next tee, if you get behind or if it's late in the round and a hot  day,

as to the op. like everyone else said you came on as d bag and got disrespected by d bags. somebody said something about bashing this kid for playing angry birds but the kid was coming on here to bash on the old man he had to play with today. all is fair and I think sometimes people in this forum can be obnoxious and grumpy sounding, the bashing in this thread seemed pretty fair.

Im not even sure what your post was about, you had to play with some old guy that was way better than you and your mad that he walked for exercise. I wouldn't bash other peoples beliefs or thoughts or reasons for what they do. If you werent in school or whatever as an older guy who probably sits behind a desk what would you do for exercise? pay extra money to rider around in a cart instead of exercising and then go home and go for a run then?

probably not going to make many friends telling them to eat crap.  your also not going to get many tips either, lol.  play how you want to play but, keep in mind you joined a golf forum.  a forum where people take their game seriously, work on it day in and day out, have been doing it for years and years and are constantly trying to find any way to take even one stroke off their game. 

you are a beginner at the game.  i hope you enjoy it the way we do.  in time, if you continue to play and get more serious about the game, our gripes will become your gripes. 

im sure your partner had a bunch of complaints about you, lol.  maybe next time instead of playing angry birds, you could practice your swing with various clubs, drive over to your walking partner and watch his shot or ask questions. 

golf is a game, but it is also very close to or and actual obsession to a lot of us. 

i hope you continue to play and improve.  there are a lot of great people on this forum with a lot of great advice to give.

I didn't jump on you for playing angry birds. I just simply said to be so quick to cast a stone on the walker for being slow. you will be there one day. Thanks for the sandwich.

Idc about why you gave me the sandwich dude. I tried to give my opinion respectfully and you have been WAY too defensive throughout this thread. when you find only find 4 posts that don't agree with you but have compassion for you then maybe you should reevaluate your opinion. maybe just maybe you're in the wrong. just say, "no guys i was joking about the angry birds" instead of attacking everybody who gave you their opinions after YOU asked for them by posting on this thread. Once again I really dont care what you did on the course but you are being a little immature over this whole thread. you posted some snide comment in another thread about how, "you aren't allowed to have a different opinion than anybody else on the forum"
 

I remember shooting between 114 to 117 for weeks and then finally something clicked and shot about 101 and hoovered there for weeks til I broke 100 Now im hoovering lower. It will just come in time. Things will click.
