I've been Playing Golf for: 1 Year Off & On

My current handicap index or average score is: 15.8

My typical ball flight is: Straight, sometimes I have a very slight draw with my irons.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I'm trying to get more consistent in my game, I have the most trouble with the low irons; 4 & 5, but I don't have any trouble with my 3 hybrid.

Clubs: - Nike Vr_s Irons 4 - AW - stiff

- Taylor Made Burner 3 Hybrid - stiff

- Adams Speedline F11 - stiff

Okay first a little background; I have played baseball almost my entire life, 5 - 18 years old (I am 22 now), and I just started playing golf a little over a year ago... I've probably only played 15 - 20 rounds, but I've been to the driving range quite a bit. I didn't really play too much for the first 6 or so months I started playing, but I've really gotten into it lately, been trying to make it to the range at least once a week. When I first started playing I had a slice of epic proportions on my drives, but I've slowly been fixing my swing and trying to learn the swing fundamentals.

Basically, my main problem is consistency. I can hit my driver really straight and long when I hit it good, but I might only hit it good half of the time... When I do shank it, I either hook it or pull it left, or I hit it really high off the face and pop it straight up into the air. Pretty much the same story with my 3 hybrid, except I never pop that one up, if I duff it, it's a pull or hook. Also for some reason I can't hit my 4 or 5 iron for sh*t. Strangely enough I can hit my 6 iron through lob wedge consistently well.

I'll get a lot more videos on here, but for now here's me taking some drives.... video was taken at the driving range earlier today.

**Note in the video I am not using my driver, I am using my friends r7 regular flex. I personally use an Adam's Speedline F11 with a stiff flex shaft.

Also after watching this video, I noticed a couple things to work on myself... I noticed my left shoulder is really hunched in towards my body and my right shoulder is really dipped down when I line up, I definitely feel like I need to keep my shoulders more square.... Also on my backswing I noticed my front leg/knee bends and torques inwards quite a bit which is definitely not something I see professional or scratch golfers do, I think that is contributing to my inconsistency...

Please let me know if you have any tips! Thanks a lot!

thanks yeah thats something my friend noticed too, that comes from baseball, i was a power hitter and you're supposed to keep your weight back and knee locked in your baseball swing... thats something ive definitely overlooked in my transistion to a golf swing... ill definitely be working on that today, bout to play a round at mill creek in about an hour! also heres the video of me hitting. few balls, not sure how much it can help though since i can't get it slomo. ^^ ah i don't have PC, I use a mac, but I'll try to figure it out next time i get a video up...

but i've sure had a frustrating last couple outings... i'm in the midst of changing my swing from my old baseball-esque swing to a more traditional style golf swing, and now i'm literally shanking 99% of my shots with my 4 - 6 iron... most of my shots would be line drive type shots that fly right and slice even farther right, and i seemed to be hitting the mat in front of the ball sometimes... i hit probably 60 golf balls yesterday with my 4, 5 and 6 irons and it was frustrating as hell not being able to hit well... it's so strange because i'm hitting my driver and my 3 hybrid comparably well, and i don't have much problem hitting my 7 iron through gap wedge.... i'm total at a loss right now... anyone have similar issues? should my swing be different from my 3hybrid to my 4 iron? if i try to hit my 4 iron with the same swing as my 3 hybrid, it never seems to work, and if i try to hit it like i hit my 9 iron, it doesn't work either... i know i definitely need to get another video up of me hitting with it, but if anyone has any tips for now that would be awesome... thanks

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
    • You may be able to find a regular flex Blueboard on the second hand market. I’m little more than half your age so I swing a shaft that launches pretty low so I don’t have a lot of experience with Regular flex (other than when I try to hit it I miss way to the left).    There are other shafts, such as the newer Ping Alta that I’ve heard good things about. And one that no one talks about. The Jupiter shaft. You can get this shaft for a $100 with a grip and your Ping adapter installed. I was talking to the golf manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods here and he has one in his driver and has nothing but good things to say about it. I thought about getting one for my Paradym Triple Diamond to play it a little shorter, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
