Have you actually made friends from golfing ?

I won some money with a guy I got paired with at an outting once. I give him a call whenever there's an outting with skins involved.

My long story short, yes. My friend/league partner and I started playing together a few years ago after some random chance meetings on the course...and now I'm best man in his wedding lol
 

i golf alone a lot, and never join up with anyone. haha but im pretty anti social. 

One of my very best friends I actually met through a golf instruction forum.  We met up for a round of golf, and have been meeting up to play at least 5 or 6 times a year ever since.  We also talk on the phone frequently. 

 

My best friends locally are also some of my golf buddies.  I would consider Erik (iacas) and Dave Wedzik as friends.  Erik was very gracious with his time while I was up in Erie and had planned lots of stuff for us to do.  We have discussed many things other than golf and while we don't agree on all of it, we certainly enjoy discussing it. 

 

Playing golf has given me the opportunity to meet some of the finest people a person could ever hope to meet. 

yes, two of my buddies i met on the first T...we play now 20 times a year or more.

Yup. 2 different guys. One a cop, the other an accountant. The cop is my partner in league play, and one of the 4 people i've met who's average drive is truly 300+ (and he's got a great short game too). The accountant, I play with on Sundays, and he joins the cop and I in tournaments quite often.

I play with a few folks at my club, but it is rare.  I moved to a new area and am surrounded by a lot of folks who play with regular buddies they grew up with.  Its really hard to "get in" with those groups.  I am an average golfer and alot of these guys are really good players so I think I get dissed because I am not good enough.  The ones I do play with we go our own ways after the round.  Most around here seem to mind their own business and are not real social.

Of course.  I move a lot, every two to three years.  Everywhere I go, I spend the first 6 months mostly playing by myself.  I've actually asked guys for their phone number who I've been paired with and enjoyed playing with; I've met lots of regular golf partners this way.  I've also been set up on a few golf blind dates by non-golfing (usually female) friends and co-workers who had friends/boyfriends/husbands who play golf.

 

Every now and then you meet someone playing golf who becomes a good friend.  Mostly you just meet folks that you like and enjoy playing golf with.

 

I guess you could say I'm a golf slu+.

I have not updated my HC on here.  This season I have played very poorly and am back up to a 15.  The guys I play with are 5 and under.   Its a semi private club.  The groups I know play all of the time are either old men groups, longtime friend groups, or good player betting groups.  I am competitive, but I am not much of a gambler.  I am more of a recreational player wanting to become a higher level tournament player. 

After I rehabbed from a shattered left wrist, I started playing on Sat mornings at a local club that had a "game"....shotgun start at 8 AM.....you were paired with others and soon you got to know some of them.....So now, 12 years later, I am still playing with these guys.....The only difference is we now play at a different course and I have run the game for the past 5 years.

 

As for my golf buddies, we go on vacations together a couple times a year, sometimes a golfing vacation and others like Carribean cruises.

 

So the answer to the original question is Yes......friends for over 10 years.

I moved here in 08 and about the only friends I have I made from the GC. One of my closer friends has a tight 4 some that I can rarely infiltrate but we still play together periodically and they have HCs of 5, 8, 10 and 17 so there is no excuse unless they are HC snobs. It is a small community and difficult to get in will locals but a lot of retirees from beantown settle here so I meet other transplants.

I meet other golfers and have a great time with them a lot actually. Many times we actually exchange numbers and say we're going to play again. Once a week or so goes by things never seem to line up. I've got several regulars I golf with, all of which I do other things besides golf with though. As far as retaining friends met via golf, it just doesn't happen for me 

 

I met everyone I played with regularly at the course.  All of my regular group were met there, and the friends I played poker with on Friday nights were also met through golf.  One of the benefits (if you want to call it that) of playing my whole life on usually busy public courses was the opportunity to meet a lot of people with similar interests.  Even many friendships made through other activities were often cemented on the golf course.

I have made a lot of friends through walking at our club.  I don't know if I would have made the same friendships if I wasn't walking though.  There's actually two different groups that I play with consistently, depending on what time I can get to the course that day.  

 

One group is a bunch of great golfers, they play from the tips (7000 yards), which is a bit long for me, but I play right back there with them and they're encouraging and friendly even though I'm always the worst player in the group.  I've never felt unwelcome because I'm not as good of a player as they are.  They're just fun to be around.

 

The other group are guys that play around my level or worse than me.  Whenever I can get out there around 2PM, I'll join up with them and we have a blast out on the course even though none of us are really good.  

 

I think that most people who never meet many people on the course are usually riding, it seems.  I've ridden a few times lately because of the heat and you never get the same experience with the other players when you're in a cart.

Sure, I've made some good friends on this forum. A few years back, I had a regular tee time on Thursday afternoons. I would often see an older gentleman teeing off at about the same time. One day we teed off in the same group-- we then subsequently played numerous rounds after the initial random pairing. I really enjoyed golfing with him-- 85yo riddled with arthritis but would often shoot his age or under. Didn't hit it very far, but arrow straight, always with a positive attitude.
