I've found that at some point in the recent past, the hotkey to create a link in a message (Command-L on OSX) has become quite an annoyance. This key combination is shared with the Firefox hotkey to jump to the location bar, which I very frequently use for navigation. The problem comes chiefly after posting via quick-post, when it seems that the box remains active. If I then attempt to navigate away by typing Command-L and typing a URL, instead I get the "create link" box.

If it's possible to change the hotkey, somehow disable it, or prevent the quick-post box from remaining active after posting, this would save me a minor but frequent UI annoyance.

It's the same on Safari, etc. The shortcut for the editor is unlikely to change (I'm glad others like cmd-i and cmd-b work for example) so we have to get used to it. If the cursor weren't put in the quick reply box after you submit that would solve it, though, so I'll mention THAT solution and maybe (unlikely) that can be the way to fix it.

FWIW, I just close the window and make a new tab, sometimes not in that order, to escape the stupid cmd-L annoyance.

P.S. You have figured out that ctrl-enter submits posts, right? I do like that one too.

Ok, bummer. The italic and bold hotkeys are nice, but I don't think I'd ever conceivably miss having a hotkey to open the link dialog. (I also guess I'm getting old, because I remember once upon a time when overriding an OS-level hotkey in your application was considered bad practice, which is essentially what's happened here.)

Well, kind of. It's a web page over-riding an application keyboard shortcut, but yeah.

I'll see if it can be fixed. If the cursor weren't put in the editor after you submitted a post it wouldn't happen.

Bug submitted to Huddler. Again, if focus is removed, this isn't a bug and everything works as you'd expect. I do use cmd-L to add links sometimes and I consider that the "expected behavior." My mind mentally switches to "text editor mode" when I'm using the editor here, so that's all okay IMO.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it as an analogy, since in the good old days, there also weren't applications within applications within applications within the OS. Certainly it's much harder than it used to be, both because of the extra layers to consider, and the explosion of cross-platform combinations (of OSes, window managers, browsers, etc, etc, etc).

Thanks for submitting the bug report, I agree that fixing the keyboard focus would be an acceptable fix (and perhaps the best of the various alternatives).

I found another reasonable key combination for dealing with this. After the unwanted window pops up, if I hit esc, tab, cmd-L, then the desired behavior results. (If I remembered what was going to happen, the esc could be left off.)

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
