You are worried you wont see your family when you play on weekends? At 16 that was part of what I loved about competitive sports, lol.

Work hard and improve. Its that simple. Stop being a mommas boy, and concentrate on your game. What are you gonna do when you go away to college? You better get used to it now.

And while you should not quit, there is no such thing as cannot quit when it comes to high school sports.

Suck it up, buttercup. Learn to work hard, practice every day, and play to win. Don't whine, work...

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

What would you like us to do? Wave a magic wand, and instantly you become a single digit handicap golfer? Well.. I want that wand to, and it doesn't exsist.

Crazy kids, it's high school have fun before it ends, and you have to work 40 hours a week and fight traffic every day, just to be able to play golf on the weekends.

I wish I was in highschool again DAMMIT!

Can't expect to be good at anything when you first start.

Being somewhere besides my house watching TV was one of my favorite things about high school and college baseball, and in golf, you don't even have to be up at 5 to go work out! Enjoy it, make friends with your teammates (That'll make practice WAY more enjoyable), and DEDICATE. Practice doesn't really pay off until you do.

That being said, maybe you should get up at 5 to at least jog a few miles if at 15, walking 18 is wearing you out that much. Just my advice. I've found I play my best golf when I'm in better shape.

I'm not going left or right of those trees, ok? I'm going over those trees...with a little draw.

i didnt really get weared out, it was just my feet hurted real bad. Im mainly worried about getting embaressed on the course. Im real good friends with every one on our golf team though

Then just stick with it and you'll be fine. The first time I played beach volleyball, my feet hurt like hell for three days. Next time out I was fine. I'd go to a golf store or a Dick's or something and buy a pair of shoes geared more toward walking; that will help.

Don't think about being embarrassed. Tour pros get embarrassed on the course. You're going to be embarrassed at some point, probably quite often. It's a humbling game. The more you practice, the better you get, and the less it will happen, but it will ALWAYS happen.

Don't quit if you enjoy it at all. If I had quit baseball in high school I'd be 40 pounds heavier and wouldn't have half of my old high school friends or any of my college friends, including my best friend, who is also a common golf partner. Encourage your family to come to your matches so that they can share that with you. Maybe they'll get into it and eventually start playing with you after high school. I know playing golf with my dad is one of my favorite things in the world.

What a blessing to be on the golf team. I'm old and I everyone I've ever met someone who played on their high school golf team is a good golfer.

High School sports are supposed to be fun. Give it a chance to be fun. Decide that you are going to have fun. Low scores help, but golf can be fun even when you don't play well.

Afraid you wont get to see your family? hell for me that would be a reward i see enough of them every day, but thats just me.  Like anything else the only way to get better at golf.  I'd say the two main points i'd make as far as swing advice goes is try to hit the ball from the inside and make sure your shoulders are on the same path at impact as they are when you address the ball.

Even if you dint see your dad much on the days you have matches you will still have the weekend to play with your pops.  Make friends with the really good golfers on your team and just take notes of the preparations they go through to make them good.

You have to decide whether you really like golf.  If you shoot in the 70's, then you obviously have a talent for it.  But don't do it just because your parents wnat you to.  You have to do it for yourself. As far as getting embarrassed, don't worry about that!!  The game is cruel.  Look at Adam Scott and Jim Furyk.  They melted down on the last few holes.  But who wouldn't want to live their lives!

I remeber my first tournament.  I was so nervous I missed 3 putts that were less than a foot!!  Turns out, I'm the only one who cared about that. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely try out for my high school golf team.  Just enjoy the experience, practice hard, and have a lot of fun.  It's high school golf for cryin' out loud, it's not rocket surgery!

Sounds like a great opportunity to get really good really fast since your friends will be encouraging you along as well as giving you any pointers they can help you with.I would try and see if one or two of your friends would like to set up some practice sessions so you guys can work on your swings/game together.

You will be fine without encouragement just keep everything in perspective...

1. You just started playing so no matter what anyone thinks or says you know that you are going to get better.

2. Practice so you do get better

3. Learn from the experience being on the golf team is fun and every team will have bad players so you won't be alone.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
