TODAY MY DRIVER IS GONE

Thread Starter

Played nine today and hit a hybrid off the tee . Since the course wasn't crowded , on a couple of holes I  also hit driver . Sure enough , driver 260 in the woods , hybrid 180 down the middle and on in regulation . I hope I can get it through my fat head that I should forget the macho stuff and enjoy the  game from the fairway . Has anyone else come to this conclusion and how do you resist  the temptation to take out driver when you play with  your buddies ? I can only play nine holes a week so I don't have time to go to the range just to be better with the big dog .

Driver has been out of my bag for most of the season.  I use my 3w or hybrids to tee off on Par 4's & 5's, depending on distance and hole layout.  My upcoming golf lessons will be with driver so hopefully I'll get it under control before the winter gets here.  If not, I'm content to keep doing what I am currently.

I know I've crapped on about this before but I really can't recommend the "thriver" idea higher. I've got a 14 degree driver on a NV stiff 44"total length . And its great .....so dependable, plenty long enough. But why stop there? I also carry a 9 degree 47 "  driver for those holes where another 20 meters could make you a shot. Forget the macho crap, get a thriver.

Easier to play a 15 degree three wood off the deck than a thriver :). I'm super accurate off the tee with the three wood anyway. I couldn't sacrifice a bag slot for a second driver (although my dad did that for a while).

I'm shortening my 45" driver anyway. I'm not sure why I let the fitter talk me into keeping it that length, I'm 5'6" and just can't control that length with my swing. 3W is about 3 inches shorter, and I'm much more comfortable with it off the tee.
