I have a friend that was born with a disability. He has three fingers and a thumb, all varying in length. Now don't automatically judge his disability. He plays great -- so I commend him on his effort! I think he has an 18 handicap. I don't have a disability and I can't play that well!

Here lately he has been loosing his grip on his club shaft (especially if it gets damp or he is sweating) and sometimes gets open wounds on one of his fingers because they get chapped, cracked, etc. I guess the friction of swinging his clubs reopens the wound.

Anyone out there know of a company/individual that makes specialty golf gloves for disabled/handicapped golfers? I'm sure this will help his game. Price is no object.

I searched google quickly and didn't see anything, but have you thought about taking a few regular gloves to a tailor and have them alter the gloves to fit?

Maybe you should contact FootJoy and tell them the story...It may be like one of those really crazy stores about disability people and maybe they'd start making gloves for handicapped people.

if tailoring gloves get synthetics because the natural ones will wear out fast and u will spend a lot more money. but.. have u thought about trying some preventative measures? use lots of hand lotion, suncreen the back of the hands, and new grips? new soft grips should help a lot and if you regrip them yourself each year you will only spend $50 on materials per year.... not too shabby. also new grips can be still be good while a little wet. i prefer Winn Excel RF's, they are terrific for me. have him keep a towel handy if sweat is an issue.

then again if price is no object you can always go custom tailored

Like an above poster mentioned. Id go and contact footjoy. I think they would be very interested in trying to help and maybe it can pave a path for some special versions of gloves. I like that idea.

UPDATE

I contacted FootJoy... and immediately got a response from AcushnetGolf Consumer Relations. This Jason Conners guy claimed that he'd forward my message to the glove and accessories team and would have them call me.

So far it's been a week, and no response. Maybe I'll try again Monday.

So far no update. My friend finally spoke to the FootJoy rep that came to the pro shop at his country club. I think they're going to help him out. They asked for a paper outline of his hand. I suppose they'll make several custom gloves for him.

It won't be cheap, but at least he'll have some protection.

I'll let ya know how they turn out... maybe get a picture of em once they arrive (which may not be for a couple of months!)

It doesn't have anything to do with the real purpose of this thread, but an 18 handicap with such a disability is very good, quite inspirational really. He's better than me, that's for sure.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
