When a tour player misses a putt, what usually causes it?  Lets say its a 15' putt with a little break.  If he misses, what percentage of the time is caused by:

Bad read

Wrong speed

Face not square

Wrong swing path

I know we're just guessing, but I would like to see your thoughts.

Thanks.

Me, if i miss such a putt, it's almost always due to tight hands and wrists due to insecurity, or fear.  Usually, regardless of whether 15 inches or 300 yards, if i try to 'direct' the path of the ball i f*ck up. Must let the club head move on a smooth path: focus on the clubhead, not on the ball.

Given that the PGA tour average for making a 15 foot putt is about 22%, I'm gonna go for all of the above...... Rolliing a 1.7" ball into a 4.25" hole over an uneven, unlevel surface from 15 feet away is just hard, even for the best in the world. For us mere mortals........ :-( http://thesandtrap.com/t/51757/pga-tour-putts-gained-make-percentage-stats

I always miss short. But I'm good at reading the breaks, etc. Just need to be more confident and go for it.

My guess:

Bad read 40% - You can't aim much wrong to miss the put.

Wrong speed 40 % - If the ball speed is not what they planned with the read, the ball is not going in and it's quite hard to put to an exact spot everytime.

Face not square: 15 % - Mistakes happens.

Wrong swing path: 5% - every swing is not perfect but I bet most guys has a very repeatable swing path.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
