Again, based on the info relayed to us by NBC after the game, this is wrong as well.  They said that if any part of the ball is over the upright, then it is good.  So like I said above, a ball that, were it 5 feet lower, would just kiss the outside of the upright is considered good if going over the top of the uprights.

 

There is an easy solution to this one:  Make the uprights higher.  I would think that 30-ish yard field goal would be the one where the ball is at it's apex nearest the goalposts, and you rarely see them kick balls higher than the posts, but when you do, its only by 5-6 feet at most, so make the posts 10 feet higher.  Or strap on some "Hawk eye" technology like they have in tennis and be done with it.  Now you don't even need to have the refs stand under there.

Should it have been reviewed... maybe but I'm not sure it would have changed the call because every replay I got to see the kick looked good. (note: I'm not a Ravens fan)

Totally ... there wasn't a single angle that definitively showed it to be wide, so even if it was reviewable and reviewed, nothing would have changed.

I never thought I would find myself happy for the presence of referees. And you know what, the Browns Ravens game was fairly well called.

it's not just the calls looked good, but they were quick and efficient. no fighting amongst the players for long spans of time, it was broken up quickly and with authority.

most of all though the confidence of the refs is visible and it makes you respect them even if they're wrong which goes a long way towards accepting that their is some human error in officiating, but at least we'll cut down on the human incompetence.

What about the rules officials?  I've seen more of them in the Ryder Cup than you ever see in a normal tournament.

Yeah, but Shanahan will find some way to screw things up like he always does, which is fine by me being a Giants fan.

Can't believe the ending of the Giants-Eagles game. Ramses Bardon had no reason to mug the Eagles cornerback like he did. If he had just gone up for the ball it probably would have been PI on the defense, or at worst an incomplete pass.  Instead, he puts the Gmen just beyond doable field goal range...unforgivable. Bardon is trying to break into the regular rotation of Giants receivers, but I think he just blew his chances.

That's a pick if he doesn't hold the DB granted he should have tried to be a a little less obvious but the DB had a beat on it Bardon was trailing. Blaming Bardon for that loss is very misplaced all the Giants had to do even before the Bardon penalty was gain 7 or 8 yards. They were in a good place but for some reason felt the need to take shots at the endzone for no reason when a FG wins. Even after the penalty all they have throw a short 7 or 8 yards pass over the middle got up and spiked it easy leaving a very makable FG. Eli decided to throw another deep ball again when he had the guy underneath it was a lot of poor decision making and Bardon was only a small portion of it.

If Barden had not drawn a defensive holding penalty on 4th down it would have been moot.  If Barden had not drawn a PI penalty a ply or two later they wouldn't have been in FG range in the first place.

i'm supposed to take mcnabb and plummers words over young, elway, and cutler's?

i'd be more worried about losing some more games if i were the giants so the coughlin getting fired rumors can start and you guys can start showing up for a full 60 minutes.
