I'm all shorts all the time. Get my tan on. Even with chilly weather I go shorts. Ex-soccer player made my legs immune to the cold.

Shorts when the weather permits. Pants when it doesn't.. Kind of like putting your name on your bag.....if you're wearing pants when it's hot out, you'd better have a heckuva game or run the risk of being labeled a poser!

No reason I can think of to not take advantage of todays performance fabrics. As the weather changes so does my clothes. There's been a few times recently when it's been cold enough to wear a jacket in the evenings. I'm usually one of the last holdouts to get the pants out. In Colorado we do have days where shorts are okay in the winter but it's sure to bring some strange looks.

I wear shorts down to around 55 degrees F unless it's particularly windy or going to rain.  I withstand cold better than most people and shorts simply are more comfortable.

I had a friend in college who wore shorts the whole first semester but finally gave up when wearing shorts into sub-20*F weather in January would have made him look (and feel) too ridiculous.

I think guys, other than golf pros, who wear pants in 80+ degree weather, who aren't doing so for a medical reason (particular sensitivity to temperature or sun or are covering up a hideously scarred leg, etc...) but are doing so for the sake of "decorum," "tradition" or "respect for the game" are simply pompous and full of themselves, trying to emulate a PGA Tour pro like an 11 year-old girl tries to emulate her favorite pop star.  Even for golf pros, if it's in the 90's, wear some damn shorts, for cripe sakes - no one wants to see a grown man sweat through his pants.  While I find the "I'm a dapper gent!" types to be pretentious and annoying, I do get satisfaction from the fact that keeping up their hoighty-toighty airs can't be all that physically comfortable for them (although they will all make the less-than-credible claim that they are just as fine in pants as they would be in shorts).  I think the reason that "always golf in pants" guy annoys me is that several such people were condescending to me the first year or two I started playing (about my playing, not about clothes though - I've pretty much always worn a collared shirt and non-denim shorts or pants).  Probably I shouldn't let what others wear bother me, but I guess I'm not a fan of snobs and posers in golf or elsewhere in life.

Having said that, I suppose I am a bit of a hypocrit, since I do keep up with the basic golf dress code even on courses that don't have a dress code unless I decide to play a spontaneous late-season 9-holes at a muni course and happen to be wearing jeans that day. If a golfer is polite and courteous to others, keeps up a decent rate of play, and maybe even is a pleasant conversationalist (optional), why should it matter if he's wearing cutoffs and a black sleeveless NASCAR shirt?  Probably no one here would have a serious problem with a cute female playing golf in short shorts and a tanktop, would they?

I live in Florida. I was torn between shorts all the time and depends on weather... I went with weather, because if its cold enough I'm going to wear pants, but if its that cold I might just wait a few days till it warms back up.

Shorts if it's cold or an informal round, but I almost always wear long pants in a tournament, no matter the weather.

I like to wear pants, but I don't have any comfortable pairs (outside of a nice pair of jeans that really aren't usually permitted). So I wear shorts, even if its 42 degrees out and I'm playing. Unless they suspend the attire rule in the winter..... hehehe.

I know... it sounds cheap... why not just buy a pair of pants??? hehehe... I have my reasons... :-p

Not wearing pants is the same reason i can't wear a jacket or long sleeves.. I just feel so constricted and tight. I need to be free while swinging and going for it all.

I tried wearing a jacket once when I went out on a cold Monday morning... it was 36 degrees to start. Did not work... Long sleeves? Maybe, never tried... But jacket/spring coat..... not a chance. I ditched that after the first drive...

Pants when cool enough and/or when playing (as a guest) at stuffy country clubs. Shorts are allowed pretty much everywhere, but I still feel pants are more appropriate for some clubs unless it is really warm. Kind of like some shoes don't seem to fit with some clubs IMO.

At my home course it's really the bugs that dictate. Unless it's above 85, I wear pants so I don't have to keep slathering on bug juice and getting my hands all slippery. And I can focus on my shots rather than doing the slap dance while trying to line up a putt. Above 85, it's shorts and a cart keeping the pedal to the metal as much as possible.

I wear shorts most of the time, but have no problem wearing pants, not jeans mind you, but pants.  I play 95% of my golf in the mornings, so early Spring, late Fall the temps can be a little on the chilly side, and I will wear pants.

Haha. I wear shorts 99% of the time with maybe a January/February round if it gets to the 40/50s.

Talking about posers...a while ago I busted out my giant staff bag because my normal bag was out of commission and I had just ordered a new carry stand bag. The guys that I was paired with made some sort of comment about the size and "staffness" of it. I will admit that it is a real Tommy Armour Tour Staff bag with an 11" top, fully embroidered, that a friend  on Tour had made for me so it is a little much. Anyway, I blade a wedge over the green on the first hole and make bogey then parred 2 and 3. On 4, I hit my approach 9 iron and the ball hit the flagstick dead-on and the guys in the other cart just started thinking that maybe I could play. I made it around in 38 and shot 78 for the day from the back tees. Anyway, I never really thought of looking like a poser, but since these guys had an issue, I was glad I could break 80 and stuff one in on number 4. By the end they had nothing to say but "good round".  I think that was the last time I played with that bag.

Worth mentioning is I golf with cancer survivors that wear pants and long sleeves all year long. I'm not quick to judge someone based on their clothes. Just because someone has on golf pants doesn't mean they are disillusioned. Some of the modern golf clothes feature sun blocking material.

+1

Just curious, why do they wear pants and sleeves all year long? I only ask because I am, and I don't observe a problem with shorts or short sleeves. Was cancer a recent experience for them?
