Socialist?
C'mon, Mr. Palin.
We WERE ALREADY a socialist-capitalist society since the early part of the last century. Look at the tax code of the last century - it is progressive and socialistic while also serving as a feeder to certain private industries such as real estate, oil, banks, etc.
It is a BALANCE. Sometimes, like, I don't know, maybe DURING THE GREATEST RECESSION SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION, the balance is skewed to helping private business AND private individuals. The GOP began the bailout, or does that memory escape you? And they did it in what they thought was in our best interests. Obama helped the Auto Industry GET TO bankruptcy. Without government cash, they would not have gotten into court on their own, and with a plan of survival. Desperate Times called for Desperate measures. And now the government is attempting to divest itself of its private holdings, generating cash, as big business has recovered and is hoarding cash.
The problem with the recovery is a failure of leadership on both ends. Obama, being a Constitutional Professor, tends to let the Legislative Branch lead - that was his mistake. Americans expect an imperial Presidency - someone who actively leads. On the other hand, the GOP has not assisted with its majority for the last 2 years, with a Jobs Program, has blocked a recovery, took the nation to the brink in last year's Debt Deal to save a few millionaires, and is generally lacking in leadership.
Both sides have not shown imagination or leadership - creative solutions to today's problems. It's not rocket scientist. But these two sides are entrenched in a battle for power, instead of a battle to assist its citizens.
Good luck out there.
