What kind of putter do you use?

 

I use a blade putter, mainly because I feel like I have more control when I use it.

 

What do you use? Which do you like more?

Blade. My putting stroke is very open/close, so a face balanced putter isn't the best option.

Blade, but i've been thinking more and more about trying a mallet style putter.  I've always felt I've been able to identify my mistakes more with the blade, but that may just be a mental thing, and i'm sure with practice I could get comfortable with something else.  There are plenty of mistakes to identify however, so I'm far from set in my ways.

Mallet, I don't like the feel of the blade putters I have tried, and I like the weighting more in mallets.

I was a mallet guy for a long time. I originally had a Odyssey Dual Force 330 Mallet and later replaced that with a 2-ball. That was for about the first 6 or 7 years I played and the last 3 years or so I've switched to a blade. I tried out a few different Scotty Cameron's (buying and selling though eBay) and settled on a Laguna Two and used that until it was stolen a little over a year ago and then I picked up an Odyssey Black Series i #6 and used that for about a year. The last month or so I played around with another 2-ball putter, this time the belly version, but decided it wasn't for me and have now put a blade back into the bag (SeeMore m2)

Blade, it's my first one (I've played a mallet since I started including replacing the blade with a mallet in the first boxed complete set I ever bought) and I like it a lot. Less to look at I think so less to distract me. I haven't dropped my putting average with it yet but I've only played 2 rounds and practiced with it for about 4 days. I can see it coming down though because I've been working on the short game a lot lately.

As I mentioned above, choosing a putter which is correctly weighted and balanced for your stroke is very important. If you have a square to square stroke, mallets (face balanced putters to be more exact) are the better option. If you are a open/close putter (such as myself) a putter with more weight in the toe is going to work better.

I've used a mallet for years and putted shorter putts with a straight back/straight through stroke.  For longer putts I would open the face on the back swing and then close it to what felt like square and then follow straitght through. I played an Odyssey Dual Rossie II for about 16 years before I finally found a blade putter that I like, an Odyssey ProType2.  I still use the same stroke but I think ny lag/long putting with the blade has improved a good deal. I still average around 30 -32 putts a round.

Mallet - I have no feel regardless, so the bigger shape gives me more alignment feature to work with.  It's seeming to work very well lately, the ball is going where I (believe I am trying to) point it, so I have no complaints.  And feel will come with practice.  So will reading the green.

 

(I had a simple blade for years and just switched out this year to a mallet, so still exploring it.)

Blade.  Ive tried various mallet putters and have never been able to find one that has a feel that I like.  Ive always putted my best with Anser-style blade putters

I think the more pertinent question would be face balanced or toe weighted.

I used a traditional blade style putter for the better part of 15+yrs...........

 

 

Then I went completely freakazoid......

....and I've been using this ever since.  It's very forgiving, and will probably remain in use for a long while.  I putt great with that ugly THANG...LOL

SC Fastback, I putt somewhere between an arc and SBST, and this putter fits my stroke best.  Not a blade, but not a full blown mallet, best combination for me.
