Hello everyone. After looking around the site and getting some great tips, I decided to sign up. I am a rookie golfer in Chicago. Just trying to play as much as I can this summer to get a feel for the game. I try to hit the range a couple times a week and have stuck to mostly 9 hole, 3-par courses so far. Looking forward to contributing to the site in the future.

Hello there. I am from the Chicagoland area myself. Where do you usually play?

Since I'm fairly new to the game, I have been sticking to smaller courses - I've played Flagg Creek (Countryside), Willow Hill (Northbrook), and Robert A. Black (a Chicago city course on the far northside) a few times this year. I try to hit the driving range at Sportsman Park in Skokie as much as I can too.

Where do you usually play?

I live up in Palatine, but I do most of my golfing in the Streamwood/Schaumburg/Elgin area because that is where I work and where my Dad and brother live.

My favorite courses are Rolling Knolls in Elgin and Maple Meadows in Wood Dale. They're both affordable and beginner-friendly.

I really recommend Rolling Knolls if you are ever out in that area. It is an executive 18 hole, but it is very challenging because of the terrain and the extremely narrow fairways. It is the course I played the most when I first started and it helped me learn to keep the ball straight.

Maple Meadows has 27 holes. The 9 hole course, which I like much better than the 18, is across the street from the clubhouse. It is very scenic and never busy. Well worth the money.

I have not played too many courses up this way. Twin Lakes is a 9 hole course here in Palatine off of 53 and Northwest Highway. Par is 29. Kinda boring, but very well kept and a nice place to tune up the short game.

The Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove is the nicest place I've played out here. My brother in-law treated us to a round with the cart right before last season ended. The cart has real nice GPS with a layout of every hole and distances to every trap and tree, as well as green depths and profiles. Far nicer than I am used to, but I shot a 106 and didn't 3 putt all day, which is a fantastic round for me.

I have heard both Rob Roy in Prospect Heights and Legends of Bensenville are both pretty nice, too, although I have not played either myself.
