2012 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic Discussion Thread

The final stop on the PGA TOUR for 2012, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, gets underway this week at Disney's  Magnolia and Palm Golf Clubs. This will be the 41st year the PGA TOUR has stopped at the Walt Disney Resort location and for some the last final opportunity to break into the top 125 on the money list and avoid Q-School.  Others incentives for players are to get into the top 70 which earns exemptions to the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial. Cracking the top 80 on the money list means an exemption at Colonial.

Camilo Villegas is currently 150th on the money list.  He shot an opening round 65 and is at the top of the leaderboard at -7.  Pretty important event for him, and a nice way to get started.

Justin Leonard finished 2nd here last year to move into the top 125 and will need a good showing this week as he currently is 138 on the $ list.  After an opening 73, he came in with a 67 today to put himself well inside the cut line, but will need to make a move this weekend.

 

These guys look like they are currently battling to make the cut and get the final 2 top 125 spots, but a lot can happen over the weekend

In some ways, making top 150 is more critical than making top 125...number 150 gets exempt into Q school finals which gives an additional shot at a full tour card and gets conditional PGA status regardless of the outcome at Q school.  OTOH, #151 has to go to 2nd stage and has no status if they don`t advance (but may have Web.com status if they were a full PGA Tour member this year)

Stewart Cink has status regardless as a major winner within the last 5 years, but this is a huge week for most of the other guys.

at one point, there were at least 30 within 4 shots, but 4 birdies in a row for Beljan have opened things up

Awesome story here.  He won his first PGA event after 23 tries.. and did it  while dealing with the panic attack issues.  Congrats to him!

Congrats to Charlie!  If he can continue to play like that he will definitely be a strong contender in 2013.
