Hi all. I am currently using the Taylormade Burner golf balls and just wondered what everyone else is using and what you would recomend for a mid-low handicap player looking for the best of all worlds; distance, control, low drag, spin and a nice soft feel? Many thanks

For years I've played the Callaway HX Tour but recently decided to give the Titleist Velocity a test. I can always use the extra distance, and mis-hits seem to stray less.

I allways play the Titleist Pro V1, but I would sugest the Titleist NXT Tour or NXT Tour S.  Great distance with pretty good short game spin and feel, the NXT Tour has more distance and a little more spin, the NXT Tour S is softer feeling and has moderate spin.  I love the Pro V1, but you need to go out and test out a couple that you like.

Putter:  Classic Black Platinum 1

Callaway Hex Black Tour.

I have never been a big fan of Callaway, but I got some of these balls when Ernie Els won the Open Championship and Callaway had a big discount.  LOVE 'EM!  I would compare them to the Pro V1x.  Low long game spin, awesome distance, relatively soft feel, and great spin inside 100 yards.

In fact, for me they have the perfect amount of spin.  On full wedge shots they don't spin back as much as the V1x, and on half wedge shots and pitch shots they check up as good or even better.

The only thing that really bothers me is the defect in the cover construction.  It does not affect playability, but it bothers me that Callaway would send out all these balls with a consistant cover defect.  Specifically, the hex pattern below the logo on both sides looks like someonoe took a razor blade and lightly traced the hex pattern.  It is very hard to see until you hit that spot a couple times with your irons, and then it starts to show up.  I have played several dozen at this point and the mark is consistant.  Since it hasn't affected playability, and I like the way it plays so much, I've overlooked it.

I've played a lot of balls this year. For me the standouts were the ProV1's, E6, 330RXS and S and believe it or not the DT SoLo. Pretty much didn't like anything else I bought or found. The exception being the Noodle+, decent cheap ball but wouldn't buy again unless I was strapped for cash.

Im using the Bridgestone E5 right now.  I love it!  Its got a urethane cover, so it spins really well and they only cost $27 a dozen.  Youd be hard-pressed to find a better ball under $40 a dozen.  The Srixon Q-Star is really nice too and feels very soft but it doesnt have the spin of the E5.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

From my post in the 'Best Ball for the $' thread:

OMG, I am totally sold on the Top Flight Gamer V2. There was some banter on another thread about how good they are, and to be honest, I am a bit of a ball snob so I didn't really believe any of it. I like all of the top of the line offerings by all the major manufacturers, with PV1s being my fav, but occaissionally I will stoop to the NXT Tour if the price is right. So, I'm in Dick's and see they have the Gamers on sale for $15/doz, and I think they will be adequate for the wife and daughter, so I got two boxes.

Well, I'm getting another 5 or 6 boxes asap, as I hear they are being discontinued. These balls are the sh!t. No, they are not PV1s. But, they go at least 20yds further off the driver than the Maxfli U4s I have been playing recently, they are surprisingly soft, and here's the big surprise: they spin quite well! I am getting consistent one hop stop or moderate spinback action with any approach shot  where I put some decent clubhead speed on the ball. Two days ago I would have taken the greenie on a 105yd par 3, but my sand wedge shot hit about 2 ft from the hole and then spun back past the next closest to the hole marker. Oh well, I made the bird..

Like I said, they're not PV1s, but at 1/3 the price it's no contest. These will be my regualr everyday ball as long as they are around and I will use the $$ I save to feed my club addiction. Hmmm, the Nike VR Pros are looking sweet...

Played rockflites briefly when started golf.  Then got to Bridgestone fitting.  Tried their suggestion but couldn't get over the clicky feel.  Tried Callaway and Titleist briefly, no real love.  Then i got a free sleeve of Srixon AD333 from someone and they felt so good, so soft when putting, chipping, ... that I never looked back.  The only ball I have played for years now !

I play exclusively with DT Solos... Man for a 2 Core ball, it acts like a 3 core ball. And its nice on the pocketbook.

The ball putts extremely well.

I started playing the Bridgestone series, seems like they have a different ball for each part of your game you are focusing on, go on their website and do the ball fitting. I did this and used the ball I was fitted with for one round and fell in love...you wont get the spin Troy Aikman throws in the commercial, but then again you wont complian like Deon Sanders either...

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
