This is my first post, so apologies for any errors of etiquette.

Been playing for a a short time (2 1/2 years).

Currently using a Titleist 910 10.5 degree D2 driver with Bassara 61 Regular Flex shaft.

I hit this with mostly carry but not much roll. On the course with a ProV1 its about 220 yards total distance.

It tends to be a high draw, a slight push or straight.

On the launch monitor this afternoon I was similar.

I noted that the launch angle was about 17 degrees.

The spin was 5000 RPM or more.

it was suggested that I try a D3 driver to reduce the backspin.

and a slightly stiffer shaft

I was able to increase the launch angle a little bit to 18 degree.

The spin dropped to about 2500 RPM.

The clubhead speed was maintained around 89.

Smash factor was 1.41

It added 25 yards on the launch monitor total distance.

Does this make sense. Is there an ideal trajectory to aim for? Should I be keeping spin relatively low?

An extra 25 yards is likely to make the difference on me reaching long par 4s in regulation. (from white/yellow tees)

At the moment i often need to use my 3 wood for my second shot when distance of Par 4 is 420 yards or longer.

Clearly this is not statistically as easy as using my 21 degree hybrid (180 yards) or better still my 5 iron.

However, it's retailing at £329 at the moment - that's a lot of money for something that might not translate, and maybe all i need is to hit a longer stiffer shaft and learn to add less spin (how do i do that?)

Cheers in advance.

PS currently playing AP2 irons after a custom fit at St Ives. My handicap is a reflection of my swing before lessons, and I've not done any ladies comps in recent times - since generally the ladies aren't fans of me apparently "hitting the skin off the ball" - (I really don't)

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
