The Phantom camera can record at 40,000 frames per second (the model we had), but we recorded virtually everything at 11,000 frames per second because the resolution (1024 x 512) was pretty good.

We were mostly using it to verify the Flightscope's measurements (freaking spot on man, no shots outside of 0.5° off, and 90% within 0.25°), but we had some time to "goof around" a bit later on... ;)

Here are two flop shots (three to five frames apart, I think) that I thought you might like. Yes, the ball is levitating. :)

P.S. The club is a frame or two or three away from making contact with the ball in the second and fourth images, BTW.

We use the yellow balls to denote the ones we have the little stickers on. The little metallic stickers help radar machines more accurately measure spin when they have only 35 feet or so to measure it.

The phantom is such a cool camera. Will you be sharing more details about what you learned later on?

I would love to see some full videos, close-up and full shots. Looking forward to the day those kind of specs become affordable.

We didn't have the lighting for that. Shutter speeds of 1/20,000 require a heck of a lot of light, especially if you want an aperture smaller than f/1.8. :)

And the files would be about a hundred GB and it would take almost 14 minutes to watch a full swing. :)

We didn't really do anything to learn, we just wanted to shoot some cool video. Nothing we didn't already know.

We shot videos to re-do the ball flight laws video in higher speeds and higher resolution, but the camera wasn't directly overhead on the left-path-right-face ones so as the ball gains altitude it looks like it's going closer to the path than is accurate. :P

Here's a still from the video of a putt:

How much light did you have to you have for these videos?  They seem dark, but I assume you had a lot of light?  I did a similar video last winter with my Casio Ex-FC100 and 210 fps and I needed a really bright photography light.  It was still grainy.

Did you film anything goofy like a glass breaking or egg cracking?

It's an f/1.8 lens at about 1/20,000 shutter speed...

Here's how much light:

Just a little work light. But really pretty close to the filmed subject area...

For Beachcomer, Nerd analysis:  "At time point 11:37.003 notice how Dave's left index finger knuckle rotates 0.113 mm to the left as impact is initiated."

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
