I wish it was a bit more even but it is teaching him lesions. If you want it you will have to work for it, Golf is a great sport to challenge him with.

Some of the kids I okayed against in high school (where double oar is the highest score you can get over hole) shot 70 on every nine... never ever got the chance to finish a hole.

So it definitely depends on where you are.

I coach JV at a larger catholic school in my city, great kids, I really enjoy them.  One of the greatest issues that we face is what shows on the scorecard vs what really happens.  Kids will tell you they shot 4 and you just saw them make 5...add that up hole after hole, over 3 months???   Work with him, let him play with kids MORE skilled then he is...lift some light weights, do some stomach exercises and re tee it next year.  3 months is a really long tryout period...I cant imagine it...our tryout is less than a week.  

 

You may want to approach the coach for what to work on....I am not sure you will get much...I feel his stacking the team with seniors is short sighted to team development....but if he has 3 championships then it seems to work for him.

Weavej2, that is what we are doing, lessions and playing each week. I am not going to the coach I do not feel he either cares or really wants to do this but that is not for me to say other then he always had an excuss why the days would get changed. I agree 3 months is a long time to go only to come down to one afternoon. Bit if I go to him he will just feel I am fighting for my son and a father who thinks he is better then he is. But we will just keep at it and hope that next year will be another opertunity.

But I agree if he is stacking his team with seniors it will catch up at some point I am sure. Or he is betting that todays freashman will be his JV team or better next year.I have stayed out of the HS sports stuff just because of these issues. But the HS he is at is very competative and from what I hear the coachs are not all that nice to the boys.

Or it could be I am just out of touch.

I'm a HS golf coach in Oregon, for a rural school, and my 2 best players don't spend more than half their time in the 70's, but I've seen schools like Lake Oswego shoot under 288 as a team a few times this year, that's under par for the team, and done it on some difficult courses.  We had a young lady from Florence Oregon set an all time course record of 64 at a local country club a few weeks ago too.  Most of these kids come from families who have been members of the local country club, and have been getting formal lessons for many years, and who have a the drive and interest to practice almost every day, even through the wet Oregon winters.

Hmmm...At large schools almost all sports teams are stacked with seniors (except for a few prodigies). The coach has no choice but to stack the team with seniors if they are the best players. He certainly can't tell a senior that's shooting under par that he can't be on the team simply because he would like the underclassmen to get experience. There's only room for so many players.

I miss playing Lake Oswego.

My highschool team is a little above average for the schools around us. We have 4 guys that break 80 consistently and 1 that can go under if he's playing well
