Shaft Question

Swung the Mizuno shaft optimizer. 88 mph and 9 tempo. I liked the results: DG x100 soft step (130g), PX 6.0 (120g), KBS C-taper stiff (120g). Now, can anyone make a recommendation for a driver shaft based on the recommended iron shafts. If so, I would also like to mention I will be playing a 44.5 - 44 inch driver. Most heads are weighted to accommodate an overall length of 45" or more, so i would likely have to add a little weight. I would like to avoid paying to get fit for a driver if possible.

Take a look at the Matrix line. They offer some pretty good stuff.

I think you should go heavy in the driver, but honestly with that fast of a tempo it won't matter what model as much as long as there's some weight to regulate your rhythm. You may find you'll get a lot of spin even with X flex, depending on your impact. Go heavy especially if you're playing a shorter driver to get a good swingweight.

 

Maybe something like an Aldila NV, proforce V2, VTS, or a grafalloy Bimatrix, all around 80g or more for under 100$ (150 for the VTS) and sturdy by all accounts. If you're spending any more than that, just get fitted and avoid heartbreak. You'll also get to try different models out and pick the best feeling one.

 

Matrix makes good shafts, but beware the price for their high end stuff. IMO you're paying for feel once you go over 200$ or so. To many it's worth it and it can certainly help your numbers and confidence by giving you good feedback and timing, but if you're on a budget you should be able to find something that works well enough.
