In a prevous post I had mentioned looking into some Mizuno Jpx800 pros. I went to Golfsmith today and while everyone was trying to hit the new R1 I was content messing around with a few irons. I hit the Vr Covert irons the best. Was hitting the 7 iron consistantly 176 with a slight fade. Nike had 2 degree and half inch longer to hit the ball seemed strangely high too me at least. Next up the x hot cally pros. loved the look of these. The feel was solid also. 6 iron 167 again with a slight fade. Sadly cally didn't have any shaft or lie options so I am not really sure without hitting my actual specs. Same thing for the Cobra amp line. No custom options or.new line yet. Lastly I was hitting the Mizuno 825 pros. Had the 1/2 inch longer shafts but no lie adjustment. Either way was not enjoying them. As of now I think I am siding towrds staying with my old set x 22 tours but the one thing that seems to be common is that I was enjoying the lighter shaft options. Anyone have any advice options anything? Thanks.

are you considering reshafting your current sticks?  KBS Tour 90 shafts are lighter, and personally I like the way they feel.  But Feel is very much a preference thing.  The cost on the shafts online is around $25 a shaft (if I remember right) plus a grip plus labor, so it is worth considering how much you are really saving to keep your X22's.

4-G is 8 clubs * call it $40 a club for labor, shaft, and grip you are at $320.  After trade in, a new set might only cost you $500 or $550.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I have considered re-shafting since I only use 6-pw of set. That being said I have a hybrid, putter, 7 wood and 2 sets if irons I could trade in so I am on the fence. I was fitted for 2 degrees upright 1/2 inch longer shafts and I like 3 wraps under grips. My main concern is will a new set even be noticeable to me besides shinyness. Would consider dynalite 90 shafts, kbs 90 and the new flighted 95. Thanks

Be careful with KBS tour 90s, they're not true to flex. They are designed for adding a lot of launch and aren't for people with average to above average distance. Kim Braly has said plainly that the tour 90 S is weaker than the Tour R flex by a fair bit. For someone who allegedly hits the 7 iron mid 170s, something in S flex would be minimal for control IMO. If you feel like the launch is a bit high it's probably because all the stock ones you hit probably didn't fit you well. The standard KBS tours are true to flex and feel very smooth, they might be worth trying, and the KBS C tapers in R or R+ will play like a legit stiff but at 110g. The 110g range is still pretty light feeling, especially the way KBS shafts are balanced, but the 90g range are not meant for people who hit the ball far.

I hit my 7i 170-180 myself and go with X flex C tapers soft stepped. I like a heavy weight and stable feel, so I'm a bit biased.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Thanks for the info. I don't hit my 7 iron over 160 ish I was shocked that I was knocking it 176 with the Vr covert 7 iron. But that was indoors and off a mat. Isolated to that specific club with a very high ball flight. Thanks.

    • I always get adds for "Find your Eastern European Soulmate" I think it's a nifty gadget to have at home. If your going to do a dedicated putting session I could see setting it up. Thanks for sharing.
    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
