Gentlemen,

Thank you for all your suggestions on previous posts in regards of courses to play in the DFW area. This weekend a buddy of mine and I will be doing our annual golfing trip. We plan on playing Stevens Park, Coyote Ridge and Texas Star on Saturday and then Tour 18 and either 2 more courses or replay tour 18 on Sunday.

Any other recommendations for Sunday?

Also, unfortunately, the area has a cold front coming in so it will be roughly 55 degrees over the weekend. Are the courses going to be practically empty because of these conditions? (55 for me is no big deal given that we had 10 degree weather this past week in Chicago).

Thanks in advance for your replies!

54 holes per day at different courses in DFW over a weekend?  Good luck!!

I'd strongly consider Waterchase.  It's my new favorite in the DFW area.

Waterchase IMO is the best golf course per $ in DFW.  I will also vote for Buffalo Creek as #2.  They are both pretty tough, too, but should not be missed if you are in town.  Waterchase #5 and Buffalo Creek #16 will literally make you pull your hair out.  They have to be some of the toughest holes in the state.  Waterchase is very cheap because Texas Star and Cowboys (awesome, awesome course, verrrrrry pricey though) are right around the corner and more popular.  Although I haven't played there, Texas Star is way overpriced and overrated from what I hear.

Stevens Park is kind of fun but not in fantastic shape and really, really short.  A better option for my money would be Cedar Crest not too far away from there, and it is in very good shape usually with a lot of fun holes.

Tangle Ridge is fun but a little too pricey for its shape, and Tierra Verde is in the same boat, too.  They are still great courses if you don't mind slightly overpaying.  If you really want to do an amazing course, drive out to Possum Kingdom and play there at the Cliffs.  I haven't actually played it, but it consistently ranks in the top Texas courses.

Last recommendation, if you want just a downright silly difficult course, I would recommend Woodbridge.  The greens are so unrealistically difficult that playing the course is almost comical.  People that love a challenge will enjoy it.  Slope and rating don't really reflect just how impractical that course is IMO.

If you are trying to get 54 holes in, stay away from Stevens, Tangle, and Woodbridge as they are very slow.  Waterchase and Buffalo are always lightning fast in terms of pace of play, which only help their case for best courses in DFW.

I use this for all of my golfing adventures.  Some of them have been way off in ratings, but the majority are spot on.

Just played Bridlewood on the North side of Lake Grapevine this week.  Great course--the greens were really firm and rolled extremely well, and the layout was good and in very good condition for DFW in July.

Oh, and they had the hands-down hottest collection of cart girls I've ever seen at any course.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
