70-80 yards shot

Is it curving right or starting right?

Personally I think a wide open stance for a 70-80 yard shot is overdoing it.  It's not like a little green side shot where one totally legit mechanical option is to bring the feet closer together and have the toes both pointing well towards the target.  Definitely some people play their wedges and even scoring irons with a slightly open stance, but not WAY open.

For me a 70-80 yard shot is close enough to full power that I just set up like I'm taking a full swing, maybe choke up a bit, take a 2/3-3/4 back swing, and come through smooth and easy.  You're hitting easy but you still have to commit to the shot.  One way to miss right with those is to get scared you're going to airmail the green, let the club head drag and never get it closed.

Ok. I open up my stance a bit with the shorter irons and especially wedges, but do I that to reduce the amount of draw on my shots. 

If you're slicing them then I'd say you don't want to be opening up your stance. You may also be setting up closed to the target with all your clubs, but noticing it more with wedges and thus opening up your stance. 

I hit my 58* from 80 yds in, if i don't roll my hands over it stays out to the right by 10 yards.

Neutral stance for wedge is somehow very uncomfortable but I guess practice will take it away!!

What about your 8 & 9 irons, how do you address the ball with them? They shouldn't be very different and it should be a gradual progression as you go up the clubs.

I'm trying to think of the last time I put a sizable curve on a sand wedge shot. The answer is......never. How do you slice a sand wedge???

It can happen.  I have a friend that consistently does it.

To the OP, from that distance, I usually set up as normal but shorten the back swing.  For me though, I like to drive the ball in from that distance more than I drop it in, so that makes my swing a little more aggressive.

An open stance can cause a slice.  It sounds like that is your problem.  Close it up!
