The difference: Phelps isn't becoming the #1 golfer in the world.

 

Excelling at one thing does not mean you're going to excel at everything. Or have the same attitude, or approach.

Agreed, he swam 8hrs a day, he goes months without practicing golf... Obviously not the same devotion there...

Agreed. But its still in him to believe he can if he wants to.

Good job Michael, be a little less aggressive on his putting, an he will eliminate about 3 or 4 shots.

I think that, similar to Rush, Phelps got a little better more because he hit more golf balls and was able to practice golf than due to any "instruction" he got from Hank Haney.

I would agree that anyone will get better from merely hitting balls alone, but I don't think that's anything against Haney.

To get anyone from over 100 to about 80 in like 10 practice sessions is pretty good...

I think Haney did a great job with Phelps. I would have preferred the finale to be him breaking 90 rather than the Olympic showdown.  The Olympic showdown could have been the episode before.
