I'm looking to buy a new driver, but I only have about £100. These are the drivers that I'm thinking about. Does anyone recommend/own any of these drivers, I need some advice.

Callaway X460/Tour - Not tried this yet but looks really nice.

Benross V5 - Tried this the other day. Has a very nice shaft and sounds nice.

RAM QUB3 - Looks a bit odd, but has a nice shaft. Goes fairly straight but not as far as the Benross one.

Cleveland Hibore - Not tried this yet. Have heard bad things about it and is slightly more expensive than the others.

Taylormade R7 Draw - The cheapest R7 but still about £40 more than I want to spend. When I tried it I seemed to launch the ball really high but that's probably because I was using one with a senior flex shaft.

Anyway those are the drivers I was thinking about so if anyone has any advice or recommendations please let me know.

Hi drewmart,

I am also looking to upgrade to a new driver. I've tried the X460 by Callaway but don't like it. I get pretty hollow feeling.
I like the r7 super quad but think it may be above your budget. Tried it and I seem to be able to find the sweet spot 8/10 times. But if generally you don't fade with the driver, then you don't really need to go with the r7 draw.

If you are a hard and fast hitter, don't go for the regular shafts.

I've heard that the Cobra (with red Adlila shaft) is pretty easy to use... but have not tried it personally yet.

Happy shopping...

I've heard that the original HiBore was not well recieved also, but the updated "XL" model supposedly is a far superior model. Of course, it also carries a far superior price tag. Oh well.

Have you checked out the Taylor Made R5? It continues to be preferred by many - so many that TM is still producing them despite the introduction of the R7. Here in the States you can pick up the D and N models more cheaply than you can in the UK. But I see the R5 XD can be found for less by you. Here's an on-line retailer, but you may want to find out if your local pro shop can get you one to demo first:

Good luck!

wow... R5 is no longer available here anymore.. they are marketing all the R7s only. I heard that the R7-425 is pretty good stuff too... anyone care to feedback? I believe this would be cheaper than the Super Quad by easily 20%.

Have read good reviews and heard bad things about the Hibore XL - had a chance to try it out today and was severely dissapointed. It sounds tinny and impact feel leaves much to be desired. Feels similar to other Japanese drivers that I personally do not like.

Tried the Big Bertha 454 today and didn't really like it. I will keep an eye out for the R5's.

I had the R7 Draw and i hit it realy long and did have a regular flex shaft in it but I really liked the club. I'm not sure what the price difference is, but the 425 with the four movable weights won me over I use both on the course along with original R7 Quad, R7 Super Quad, Big Bertha C4. I love the TaylorMade Drivers. But my choices in order go 425 R7, R7 draw, Super Quad, Quad, and then the BIG BERTHA. The shaft is what is real important. Get on the simulator, and ur swing speed and ball will choice a shaft for you the rest is just personal feel. The Draw was a little light and SuperQuad was a little heavy, and the 425 was what felt good to me. Find the right shaft and youll find you club alot faster. All your local retailers will all shafts in all models.

if you can buy from the PGA Tour Superstore, they have the Titleist 905R for $168 here in Dallas. Best deal out there for a brand new driver.

Hi there,

I demoed a couple drivers at the local range a few weeks ago.

First the Big Bertha 460:
I don't hit the ball very hard or swing very fast. My shots are "typically" straight. If anything I have a very slight draw. With the Big Bertha, I could not stop the ball from slicing. My distance was good (about 250ish) but I was cringing with every shot, thinking it was going to slice on the the highway next to the range.

Second the HiBore XL:
Hit the ball about 230 on a bad swing and about 260ish on a great swing. The ball flew straight as an arrow, and had a beautiful tradjectory (sp). FOR ME was the better of the two clubs. The only thing I didn't like about the XL was the "Aluminum Bat" sound it makes.

Third the Calloway X460:
I got to play a whole round with a buddy's X460 after I demoed the previous 2 clubs. This club feels great, swings nice, but I could not get the ball off the tee. My best drive was probably only about 200 yards, and that was the only one that did not hit the ground 50 yards infront of the tee. The X460 made a horrible hit feel like a home run, but it sure didn't fly like one.

I hope all my rambling has helped you. All these clubs had their stock reg. flex shafts. Needless to say, I've finally sold enough stuff on eBay to order the HiBore XL. It should be here on Thursday.

As for prices, I haven't found any better prices online than www.rockbottomgolf.com I got the XL brand new for $219.99 plus $14.99 shipping. Hope this helps. Good luck,

Flux
I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

Thanks for the reviews. I ended up buying the Callaway X460. I was carrying it about 200-20 when I was playing yesterday and that's 25 yards longer than my old driver. I got it with the stock Fujikura 64 shaft and 11* loft. The ball is travelling a little higher than my old driver but I'm not losing any roll.
