going to the course early in the morning and convincing the starter to let you play first by yourself. Then playing by yourself in 2:10 and shooting 71.

something to be said for being the first one out on the course and only seeing your own footsteps on the dew on the fairways and greens.

i was gonna say..........

Any long walk with a putter in your hand. Heck, the few times I've used a cart, if I hit the green from afar, I'll grab my putter and walk, and have the other guy drive the cart for the rest of the hole.

Oh,

yeah! What's your secret to getting up at 4:30 in the morning? I am incapable of getting up before 8 or so, even with alarm clock assistance. I think I may need to give that a try, since then there's no waiting on every shot (and I can go around in 2:10, as well).

Oh,

Set several alarm clocks.

And/or get an alarm clock that will run away from you after you hit the snooze bar, so it can beep at you from another location.

Set several alarm clocks.

The other secret is going to bed early enough so you get the required sleep.

Happiness is when I get pars instead of bogeys.

Set several alarm clocks.

LOL! I didn't know there's running alarm clock. Does it really run away? This can be an interesting gift hmm...

Heh...I need one of those. Every time I try to get up before 8 or so with the alarm clock beeping, I, in a semi-conscious state, fumble for the snooze button without thinking. It's as if another part of my brain has taken over and all it is saying is "Get more sleep" and I can do nothing about it. (I've tried going to bed earlier countless times - the only way that would work is if I went to bed at...ahem, seven in the evening.)

Back on topic: Happiness is getting the ugliest par you've ever seen.

I can send you a link by PM if you want. I'm not affiliated with the company, and I'm not going to go deliberately advertising for anyone on this board. But if you send me a PM asking for it, I'll link you to them.

Back on topic: Happiness is getting the ugliest par you've ever seen.

Done that. It's great.

Happiness is finally making birdie on a hole that has defeated you for 29 years

That hole went from being my least favorite to my favorite on the first course I ever played. It's now the only hole I've birdied twice.

My idea seems a bit off. Happiness to me is golfing 18/27/36 holes with family and driving to the nearest family favorite and eating a nice hot meal. Doesn't get much more soothing and blissful than that.

I think what makes me the happiest on a golf course is getting up-and-down from a really bad situation. Like from under a tree or in ankle deep rough, and then you manage to some how get the ball within five feet and sink a putt then you record a par on the scorecard. Nothing much more fulfilling than that.

    • Nothing is assured and lots of talented young athletes in many sports fail to achieve greatness. as was said, injuries, growth, lots of things can come into play, And let’s let honest, over the years a few players have been branded “The Next Tiger Woods” and yet there is only 1 Tiger Woods. My initial point was if he can do a great breakout it may capture the attention of a new generation.  Back in the 70s it was Secretariat in horse racing, we also had Jordan in basketball and let’s not forget Tiger for golf.  Stories get people interested and I think golf needs a new story. I will pull for him and hope it works out but there are so many factors that come into play you just do not know, But I can hope.
    • Day 114: 4/19/24 Chipping and putting practice. Tried a little hinge and hold with good results, which has never been the case during a real round. Playing tomorrow and eager to play.
    • I don't think I've found any of the Good Good stuff, or the guys that were once a part of it, very interesting.
    • Day 535, April 19, 2024 30 minutes in the middle of the day while doing errands and a bunch of other things. Behind. Behind.
    • Day 127 (19 Apr 24)  -  Played in the Friday Men's group today.  While I shoot 82, it was a pretty solid round with 10 pars, 5 bogies and 3 doubles.  I really hated the doubles - but each one was followed by a par come back, so "accepting" the number has really begun to pay off and not letting it get to me on the following hole in thinking "I have to get that stroke back".
