I currently use a Burner 10.5 regular shaft. I had gone to Golf Galaxy and was put on a launch monitor. I found out my swing speed is 105, with a 12 launch angle.
Most my mistake shots are left, due to the shaft snapping.

It was recommend to me to get a 9.5 stiff shaft.
I was looking at a callaway fit black.
Yesterday I went and hit my first bucket of balls for the season, followed by testing the Callaway, infront of my teaching pro. My aim was inconsistent.
He suggested I stay with the 10.5, but pursue a stiff shaft.

Can anyone explain what benefits a 9.5 would give compared to the 10.5?

If your launch angle is only 12 degrees... Your may benefit from a 10.5* driver.  I'd recommend you play around with the 9.5* and 10.5* on a launch monitor - and test your ball placement and tee height to see if you can get your spin numbers down into the low 2K range.  That would be ideal.

Thanks for info.

Based on the way I have been hitting it, I may stick with the 10.5, but just switch to a stiff shaft!

Just got tested hitting a 9.5 Stiff. 104 to 106 swing speed 136 ball speed 3600 spin. launch angle in 11.5 to 11.9 So do I need a 9.5?

If I were the fitter I'd want you to stick with a 10.5 because that launch angle is too low in my opinion. Spin rate is also too high but this probably is more a swing issue than anything. If I'm fitting someone for a driver I'm going to look more at getting the launch angle correct. Did you happen to notice what your angle of attack was?

No idea of the angle of attack. But all the stats I posted were from hitting a 9.5 I am also stumped because my teachers recommended the 10.5 based on viewing my shots as they dont use a launch monitor. The GG guy uses a simulator, which does not show the actual ball flying through the air. I find it funny that going to Golf Galaxy, and hitting on a simulator in from of 3 different people, each of these people all said to go with a 9.5. As my wife said "they are just trying to sell you something!"

This is the best advice. You need a stiff shaft, which will help some. And work on making better contact, even if you have to make an 80% swing.  A smash factor of 136/105 = 1.3 shows a real need for better contact.

I would try a different shaft to get that spin down. See if they have the PX Black 6.0 or a variant for the FIT and give it a shot.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
