Best Cheap Ball for the money

I see a lot of talk on balls, but dont see anything about the best ball for your hard earned money, so what do u think is the cheapest ball but still worth playing with?

There is no such thing as a good, cheap ball.

There may be some decent inexpensive balls.

You generally get what you pay for - and some will justify how *good* something is based on what they paid for it - which means their opinion is biased based on the price.

Top flight d2's and gamers are pretty good. Think they cost like like 16-20 a dozen.  Honestly unless you're a really good golfer most amateurs won't benefit from using a high grade ball anyway.

I used to think that tour balls were strictly for better players as well. I am a 25 handicap and lose a lot of balls in a round. For this reason I stayed away from the expensive balls. My regular foursome are much better golfers than me and they play pro v1x, tour330, and the cally iz. They have often told me there is a benefit to a better ball but i just chalk it up to there skill level and would tell them they have bought into the propaganda. I got a dozen pro v1x for Xmas and decided to put them to the test. I live close to an 18 hole par 3 course with 3 par 4's on it. I played 2 balls, a top flite against a pro v1x. I will say that around the greens especially there is a noticable diffrence between the tour ball and the cheap one. For me personally i saw an improvement in my entire game from putter through driver. Even with the woods and long irons I noticed a straighter ball flight. I assume this has to do witht the amount of spin from the tour balls. I'm not saying these balls knocked 10 strokes off my round, but seeing them check and sit on the greens, instead of my trusty top flite bounce and roll off the green, certainly made my round more enjoyable. As for how to make these an economic option for me, I went online and bought used pro v1x for a few bucks more than new top flite. If you don't mind used balls there's no reason your "cheap" ball can't be a tour ball.

A straighter ball flight with a tour ball is hard to believe unless you were just more confident playing with them.  Tour balls spin more so better players can spin them on the greens and "work them" i.e. get them to fade and draw on purpose.  Scientifically speaking lower grade balls are meant to go straighter just do to the fact they don't spin as much but yeah A higher grade ball will definitely perform better around the green.  But id be willing to bet if you took the average weekend golfer and had them play a pro v1 and a titleist nxt without the logos on them most of the golfers wouldn't be able to tell which ball is which

Remeber this is a par 3 course with 3 par 4's so I hit driver twice and 3 wood once. The added confidence as you put it, could have been a factor with the woods. However for me personally on those 3 shots my usual draw was less pronounced and i had more roll out after it landed. Thats what I meant by straighter. I will report back when i get a few rounds on "real" 18 hole courses. I hit my irons fairly well and the ball flight was similar with the 2 balls off the tee. The diffrence was how it reacted once it landed on the green.

The Top Flite Gamer V2 is widely considered the best "value" ball on the market. This opinion is pretty well supported on this and other golf  forums. It has performance that rivals many mid level balls. There is now a Tour version of the ball that has a urethane cover which promotes more greenside spin.

I should have mentioned I was playing a top flite xl distance. I have no experience with the gamer.

i'm a high capper as well, and i refuse to play with a ball that costs 4 bucks a piece when i am prone to losing 3-4 per round.  golf is already expensive enough

the top flite gamer (or gamer V2) costs about a buck a piece, and you can find them on a few online sites for less...

at my skill level, i don't think that i can "work" a ball enough to warrant the expense of the proV1s.  i have been more than pleased with the top flite gamer

The Gamer V2 surly isnt right for everyones game, but its probably right for more people than actually realize it. Truth is...you are just not going to get some people to have an objective view of it simply because of the stigma of the name TF. Ive noticed this on several occasions in conversations ive had with people about golf balls or when I tell people what ball I play. It really even does no good to give them the ball and let them try it because the stigma and preconceived ideas about the brand will usually block any sense of objectivity. It really only seems to be people who participate on golf forums that know that the Gamer V2 is a good ball. Perfectly fine with me though. I think the ball is great and it performs exactly as I need it to...and at $20 a box, I cant see myself changing balls anytime soon.

Yea, I was told to stay away from tour balls unless I am trying to put a draw or fade, cause they are made for that, told to use a good ball for control. Ill check out the V2

Please do not take this the wrong way, but...a friend of mine on another forum forum (thx J)  once offered me some sage advice regarding posting / answering on forums - Keep it short and if not. at least break the thought up into different sentences / paragraphs to make it easier to read. (thx, J)

That said...I once saw a 70+ year old golfer spin a $1.00 Pinnacle back 6' from a sandtrap.

Regarding price - I recently gamed the Wilson Staff Fifty's for around $12 a box from S/A.

SOB, I had the longest drive on one hole with mine against others that were $20+.

In fact, I had also purchased a box of Srixxon Feel's for about $20 and momentarily switched for a few holes - the cheap Wilsons actually gave me better results.

Long story short - you can ask, but your results are better answered by buying a few sleeves of what is available while not caring about the score you have that / those days.

Trial and error will give you the best answer.

Pick a ball any ball. Seriously. Some of the best rounds of my life were shot with pinnacle golds and Rockflites. You learn to adjust.

Then again it matters what type of course you are playing. Rockflites and pinnacle golds just wouldn't cut it for some private courses around here.

go to walmart and drop 19 bucks on their bag of used balls. Its like 45 balls for under 20 bucks

I've been recommending the Gamer V2 on here and to my friends for a good while now.  While I can't usually back up a wedge (not that I particularly want to) the V2 stops quickly and has great feel with the putter.  Best choice in my opinion.

FWIW, I am a beginner golfer and I buy used balls on craigslist for $2/doz. This does two things for me. First, I don't waste a ton of $$ on balls sent to the woods/water, AND I can take chances with my ability. Two, I can survey all types of balls. Typically, if I use really high end balls, Prov1 Prov1x etc., I slice it. I have done better with Nike Crush, MOJO, Noodles, and Wilson Staff. Yesterday I played about 13 holes (probably a record for me) with one Srixon ball, but I don't remember which line it was..... :-\ Yesterday after playing for 9 mos. I bought my FIRST new balls because I'm playing a foresome tomorrow and I like yellow balls (Srixon) in a group. I doubt this information will help any low handicappers but hopefully it will help beginners like me who are reading to gain knowledge.
