17° = 2i
19° = 3i
21° = 4i
24° = 5i

Would this be correct?

Or would it be more:

17° = 3w
19° = 5w
21° = 3i
24° = 4i
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I'm pretty sure a 3w is anywhere from 13-17*, I know that my 7w is a 24* and my 5w is a 17*...Its labeled as a 5, but i think its more of a 3w.

Your second table makes more sense to me, maybe a more knowledgable player can clarify.

I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

17° = 2i

I would say list two is closer, but because of the shorter shaft the 17 degree plays closer to a 4wd or 1 iron with most hybrids. Because of the variance in styles, and shaft lengths it is hard to make a hard and fast rule.

I have a 21* to replace my 2 iron. I hit it farther than my 3 iron.

Yardage table for me (included the lofts of hybrids I have demo'd or played):

2 iron = 225 yds = 16/17 degree
3 iron = 215 yds = 19/20 degree
4 iron = 205 yds = 22 degree
5 iron = 195 yds = 25 degree

Obviously the yardages will change for all but the comparison should be close if you're looking to replace an iron in your bag.

I agree. I play a 5 wood instead of a 2 iron, an 18* hybrid in place of a 3 iron, and a 22* hybrid in place of a 4

I bought a 21 degree hybrid (DG S300 steel shaft) to replace my 3i (21 degree DG S300). Hit my 3i about 205 yards in the air. The hybrid, although the same length and loft gets about 10-15 yards more carry for me.

So I'd have to label a 21 degree hybrid more like a 2i.

I use a 17-degree hybrid to replace my 2-iron, and it fits pretty well between my 3W and my 3-iron, so I could also call it a 5-wood replacement.

It's a shorter shaft than an equivalently lofted wood and a longer shaft than an equivalently lofted iron. My old 2-iron had 16 degrees of loft - and I hit my hybrid about 5-10 yards further than the 2I, but again, right in the 3W/3I gap.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just picked up a 20* hybrid yesterday. It was $40 and in very good shape so I couldn't pass the deal. I've since taken my my 3i and 4i out of the back. I NEVER used them, and everytime i tried to hit them it was shanked or I would have a nice piece of sod. I guess my question is, do you guys think i should get a 4H (i guess about 22-24*) to replace my 4i, or stick with my 24* 7w as my "4i". Thanks in advance.
