Hi all.  Looking to purchase some irons for my 16 year old son.  He has hit the RocketBladez and really liked them.  The pro has stated that there's not a ton of difference between last years' Ballz and this year's Bladez but we have not been able to hit the Ballz version yet.  I can get the RBZ (last year's) for about $550 and the price I can get for the new model Bladez is $725.

We have read some comparison's and reviews but wondered if anyone here had any thoughts.  He's a high handicapper so a club like this is ideal from what I'm told.  I just wonder if it's justified to spend almost $200 more.

Thanks for any insight

Barry

The Bladez have a thinner top line than the RBZ.  You might also consider the Mizuno JPX-825's.  I hit both the Bladez, 912 AP1, and JPX-825's and went with the Mizuno's based on feel and Trackman numbers.  The Mizuno's are $100 less than the Bladez.

if you want blades or tour irons, try the mizuno mp's or titleist ap2

He's looking for irons for his 16 year old son who is a high handicapper. I don't think he wants tour irons. I would hold off on purchasing the RocketBladez until your son gets a chance to hit one, or at least address a ball with one. I have hit them both recently (RBZ vs RocketBladez) and I certainly felt more comfortable over the RBZ irons. As mentioned above, the RocketBladez have a much slimmer top line, and the RocketBladez Tour irons even more so.

Thanks for the responses.  We went out and hit both RBZ and Bladez and didn't notice much distance.  he liked the RBZ just as much as already excited about the extra distance either of these gives compared to his previous set.  Looked at - but did not hit - the Mizuno 825 as mentioned earlier but I would not get the best price on those as I would on the TMs.

Given that I could get the RBZ for $549 and the Bladez were going to be $725 we went with the RBZ.  Hoping to pick them up tonight.

Now, here in Southern Ontario we just need Spring to actually arrive!

    • Nothing is assured and lots of talented young athletes in many sports fail to achieve greatness. as was said, injuries, growth, lots of things can come into play, And let’s let honest, over the years a few players have been branded “The Next Tiger Woods” and yet there is only 1 Tiger Woods. My initial point was if he can do a great breakout it may capture the attention of a new generation.  Back in the 70s it was Secretariat in horse racing, we also had Jordan in basketball and let’s not forget Tiger for golf.  Stories get people interested and I think golf needs a new story. I will pull for him and hope it works out but there are so many factors that come into play you just do not know, But I can hope.
    • Day 114: 4/19/24 Chipping and putting practice. Tried a little hinge and hold with good results, which has never been the case during a real round. Playing tomorrow and eager to play.

    • Day 127 (19 Apr 24)  -  Played in the Friday Men's group today.  While I shoot 82, it was a pretty solid round with 10 pars, 5 bogies and 3 doubles.  I really hated the doubles - but each one was followed by a par come back, so "accepting" the number has really begun to pay off and not letting it get to me on the following hole in thinking "I have to get that stroke back".
