Holes in greens

Hi all,

I was out playing last night and noticed that the greens all had holes punched through them (like small grids) across the entire surface but was wondering what the purpose of that was (as the pro shop had closed by the time I finished up).

It played havoc with my round as I just couldnt sink anyhing as the ball would get near the cup and then catch the edge of one of those little holes and have its trajectory changed! Either that or I just cant putt anyways :)

It is called aeriation and it is done also on fairways.

At the really thrifty courses they make the golfers wear special shoes to keep greens fees down.

J/K, these are a home version that you can wear while pushing your mower to create that golf course aeration experience at home.
