I have that same set.  I really like them.   I've played with them on a simulator for several weeks and have taken 8 lessons since January.    I believe since they are SGI clubs they would be great for a beginner.   I'm not sure the graphite shafts would be necessary.   The steel shafts would probably save you $100.

I'm eager to get in a round here in Michigan.   With the weather, it may be a month or so.   Yesterday when I had to work we have 70º but the day before most of the golf courses were flooded from the 3+" of rain.   Today we had some snow flurries and tonight the temperature are suppose to dip to the 20s.

Good luck,

IMHO a great set to start with. I wish I had a set anywhere near half as good as that to start with.

Some will surely disagree, but I like the idea of starting out with the easiest club you can lay your hands on. With luck the learning process will be smoother and the kid will enjoy the game all the more. I serious doubt the extra couple of hybrids will have a detrimental impact on your childs future development in the sport.

You know the drill- there are an increasing number of pros playing with more and more hybrids

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
