Hi,

As this is the Welcome thread, I'll first introduce myself, I'm 32 years old, from the Netherlands. Started playing golf 9 months ago, but have really put it up a gear this year by joining a club and started playing more and more, especially with the weather improving over here these last weeks.

Instantly fell in love with the game, and I have no idea why I didn't start playing sooner. It's especially amazing how golf is such a mental thing. After several rounds of 56-60 over 9 holes and just not improving (even though I did improve on the driving range), out of nowhere I shot a 47 earlier this week. No idea how this happened, suddenly balls started going in the direction I wanted them too. Awesome feeling!  Considering I still have no idea how to use the driver, and my woods are very shaky at best, I still feel I can improve more if wouldn't be forced to only use irons. I take lessons from a pro about once every month, so I'm sure we'll get to that.

Anyway, important reason I joined is I would like to ask a question to all of the US members:  Me and my girlfriend will do a 3 month roadtrip all through the USA this summer. We have a broad idea on where we want to go (we'll likely, very very very roughly, drive from NY to Chicago to Seattle to LA to Houston, back to NY) and plan to play about 1 course every week as well. After my recent success, we both have handicaps in the low thirties now, so obviously we are not looking for extremely difficult, expensive or prestigious courses; we'll save that for later.

Anyway, obviously I don't quite know where to look for the best courses myself. Any advice you might have with regards to easy accessible courses that really have that special quality and which you would particularly recommend in your area, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Welcome. Don't have any recommendations for the LA area, except for Oak Creek. It is in Irvine, just south of Disneyland. Played it for the first time about a month ago and loved it. Not sure about the price though because I played in a tournament.

Welcome!  If you drive from NYC to Chicago, you will be traveling on I-80 through Pennsylvania and Ohio.  One of my favorite golf courses in Northeast Ohio is called Boulder Creek in Streetsboro, Ohio.  I-80 can be seen from the golf course.

I have been to Holland many times. Leiden mostly. As a matter of fact, my partner and I drank Oranjeboom beer during a round of golf here just last week!  When Brand Bier becomes available, we'll drink that as well!

Enjoy your stay in US.  The golf courses are beautiful.  If a stay near NE Ohio is in your plans between NYC and Chicago, I can offer many ideas for your stay.

    • Day 85 - Played 9. Driver was solid, approach shots were pushed, chipping/pitching was better, putting was rough.
    • Day 514, March 28, 2024 Quick ten minutes while waiting for the wife to come home for our trip.
    • Day 262: did a stack session. Worked on rehearsal swings during rest breaks.
    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
