Do you guys prefer to walk or ride 18 holes? - Page 2

I used to walk every time out.  Now I have arthritis that isn't as responsive to treatment as I wish that it was.  That forces me to ride.  I played better when I walked but it's no longer an option.

I work out 6 days a week (and some parts of the year--like now--I'm working out upwards of 10 times a week).  If I walk 18 my body starts to feel overworked.  I get a cart as long as the price is reasonable.  Considering I use golfnow for nearly all of my rounds, that is pretty much all the time.

I enjoy walking. I use a push cart and feel that walking allows me to prepare best for my next shot as well as keeping me stretched out throughout the round. Also I can bring my cart right up to the green so leaving a club never happens.

In this area, almost everyone of the courses require carts. And the few courses that do allow walking, will only allow it after noon or 1pm. Although the courses here are very flat, there are many that wind through resort and condo complexes and some have very lengthy distances between holes.

Given the option, I would walk with a caddie like I did at Wynn Golf Las Vegas. I love to walk the golf course but could care less about lugging around a 50 lb golf bag.

I don't mind taking a cart (as is usually required here), but as others have mentioned, I usually like to walk as much of the hole as possible, while letting my playing partner or wife drive the cart up. Kind of the best of both worlds. I can walk the hole. The cart carries my bag. And I have a quick ride from the green to the next tee.

I always walk and carry my bag. Not sure why, but I always feel rushed when I ride. I play better when walking the course and also find it more relaxing.

I walk every time I play except on 3 occasions.  Sometimes before work I will go and try to get 18 in really quick, less than 2 hours and will use a cart.  When I am playing for practice and will be playing multiple shots or working on working the ball.  I hit balls everywhere and cart is easier to go fetch them all.  Then last is I have a group a friends that when we play, we play at least 45 to 54 holes.  Its an all day tournament and we play all kinds of money games.  Otherwise I walk.  If I am just playing 18 with a foursome, i will be walking.

When I started playing regularly again 5 years ago, everyone in the group walked. So, I started walking too and walk almost every time now. If I play with family or a scramble, I'll take a cart, but that's only a few rounds a year. Overall, it's just more enjoyable for me to walk. You only play your ball, clear your head between shots, no lost clubs, don't have to stay on the cart path, etc.

Plus, it's part of my exercise in golf season. I'd much rather burn off my beer calories walking the course than in a gym.

Depends on the course and the weather.

I am kinda surprised no one mentioned these factors.  And it's cart for me... always.

1.  The convenience factors...drink holders, scorecard/pencil right on the steering wheel...basket to hold towels, head covers, etc.

2.  Probably the biggest reason I take cart only.  The BS factor.  I love to play fast.  Me and my buddy will play 18 in about 2.5 hours and sometimes less.  The BS factor is the ability to laugh, bust each others balls, etc... while in the cart.  Walkers seem to be together on the tee box and sometimes walking together to their balls.  But if one is way left and the other on the right... they split up.   I've seen walkers on par 5 barely be together.  I find the comeraderie of being in a cart way more fun.

3.  Carts are faster.  Don't give me the BS that walkers play just as fast.  Can they?  Perhaps.  But I've yet to see 2 walker come thru us and yet we play thru people all the time.  If we each bust a drive 230-250 yards out there... I can guarantee you my cart gets out there WAY faster than you walking.  We play ready golf... we don't "cart hang".  In other words.. if my ball is 230 out in the right rough... my buddy drops me.. goes to his ball that is 240 in the left center of the fairway.  By the time I hit...I walk to where he is at and boom.. on our way.

Your #1 also applies to me since I have a push cart that has my scorecard and drink holder. Speed I suppose is favorable to a cart if the course is empty. Wouldn't it also depend on the caliber of players carting it? I have found that there aren't too many on a weekend willing or even able to allow play thru.

I like the exercise so I always walk.  I'm also in the military and use 18 holes of golf as my PT for the day!!

2.5 hours? Maybe if you're first out or on an absolutely dead course. Otherwise, no way. Obviously, carts are faster. That's why I'm always surprised when I run into guys in carts when I walk.

I like to walk in the winter when there aren't carts around...

Where we play there will be 20 carts waiting on the first tee and you will get ran over if you walk.

We usually ride...

2.5 hours and sometimes less?  So sometimes 2 hours and 15 minutes?  Is that 7.5 minutes per hole or is my math wrong?  Sounds possible, but sounds like you'd have to play speed golf and never lose a ball.

I honestly have no idea how people walk on a golf course.  Where do they put their beer in between shots?

I walked exclusively for 20yrs...........

I ride now....my current home course isn't a course you'd want to walk because there is distance between greens and tees on certain holes.   My membership includes the cart so it's a no-brainer.  On a couple holes....the walk to the next tee would be up a steep faced cliff.............or a long way around.....LOL  Even though my course is upscale....the carts are gassers because of the steep slopes on some holes.  Electric carts with some age would have issues on this course......

I will walk every time when I play golf, as long as the course is walkable.  Walking the course makes me relax and choose where I get to go.  Also I get to walk with the others in my group or walk by myself if I need to get my thoughts together.

I prefer to walk.
I feel as though I always play better when I can walk. It helps me keep focused and I think that I stay more loose and relaxed throughout the round.
